Texas got their 2nd and 8th best organizational players for Gentry and Lindblom.

I love the hell out of Gentry, but I didn't know he was that valuable to anyone but Texas.

He gets on base at a pretty good rate so I'd see how he'd be valuable to Billy Beane, oh and he's also one of the best defensive center fielders in the game. Still I like the return we got from him and Lindblom.

They gave up a lot for a guy they will likely platoon.

I looked up Michael Choice and he's 24 yrs old, with no service time in the majors. He's from Mansfield and played collegiate ball at TX Arlington. He's 6' and 215, so he may have some power potential, and he would be under club control for the next 3 years.

Isnt a FA until 2020. Made his debut with the A's last season.

I see Engel Beltre & Choice as 2 candidates for the LF spot next season.

That makes two 4th OF's we have lost this offseason, and one everyday OF/DH. ...

Ford ... are you writing Cruz off as a loss? Probably reality but wanted to make sure I hadn't missed something.

I don't count Murphy as a loss and Gentry isn't either given he was traded. TBD whether that is a good trade equal to his 2.8 and 3.6 WAR last two seasons.

Ben Badler@BenBadler 5m Michael Choice is MLB-ready now. Plus power there, swing adjustments have cut down on his strikeouts and improved plate coverage.

I hope you're right Billy Beane isn't usually one to get fleeced, but maybe jd just pulled a rabbit out of a hat.

I agree. We may have a power bat for a COF position for the next 10 years. Choice is young, controllable, and has power.

Viewing this trade from a one year standpoint, which some are doing, is short sighted.

Don't forget about Engel Beltre. He can step into that forth outfield slot, and is out of options.

Short term the A's look good. Long term Texas has a fair shot of winning this deal.

This a short term trade for them, and a longer one for us. Gentry will be very beneficial in their huge stadium, and they pride themselves on doing the little things, which Gentry is excellent at.

I hate the idea of making our primary competition better, even on the short run though.

Sorry Rev.....my computer is slow this afternoon.

I hope choice is major league ready and steps in and crushes it right away.

Well, we know that's likely not going to happen. Unless they sign another COF bat it will be Beltre and Choice in LF.

Scouts are saying that based on what they see and not just the numbers mind you.

Scouts are high on him, and he hit 14 homers last season, with 89 RBI at AAA. Seems like he's got a nice future ahead of him to me.

Michael Choice had gotten on base at the minor league level fairly well and has slugged .445 and .423 at triple a and double a respectively.
