Thats the only reason he didn't play every day before, was his percieved struggles against RHPs, so I could only assume what you meant
WOW! Some conversation you guys had.

If your other guys are doing their job you can have a COF that does so much more than the traditional COF in there, problem was not Gentry it was weakness elsewhere

i can see your point but like most i think you are going to see Gentry or Martin as a combo CF/4th OF'er tandem with the LF'er being more of an offensive middle of the batting order type

The Rangers are apparently open to trading any of their 3 mid INF, but have said they will not eat any of Kinsler's contract if he gets sent packing. I'd like to see him move on, not a hater of Ian's, just fatigued from his base running madness/errors on routine plays/too many pop-ups, and think Profar gives us a better IF overall. May have to sacrifice some RBI's for 2014 season though.

The Rangers are totally committed to Martin in CF. They stated this time and time again. Gentry will be his BU and our 4th OF, IMO. But platooning in CF is not what the team has their eyes on.

I'm ok with that, but I still think that's a seriously flawed perspective based on the evidence on hand

What I love is that Martin is not even that young compared to Gentry, he's 25, Gentry is 29, not a huge difference there

The trade deadline and off season just wears a person out thinking about all the things I would like for us to do. But of what I have heard the best is making a trade with the Cardinals. I want a good young pitcher and position player. Price may cost us too much and his postseason era is over 5. I also have this gut feeling (not like RW's made up easy speak) that he may start to wear down. Just my 2 cents.

I really like both of these players. Gentry brings many things to the table. My biggest concern with Martin is his patience at the plate. He has to lay off the bad pitches. I mean 28 walks in over 500 plate appearances does not cut it. And he is still learning how to play defense. I think it will come in time but he is still a work in progress. But if we play both on a consistent basis we are diminishing our OF power. The only way we can play both is if we add some power bats in other areas. Then it might work. By the way, Gentry turns 30 this month. But he really has not lost a step yet so I do not see that as a big deal.

sometimes trying to expand a player's numbers from an established number at bats, say 300-350, and try to project what they would do at 500+ at bats is a crap shoot. neither Martin or Gentry has really established numbers that would allow that. i don't disagree with you i just think sometimes too much faith is put in projected numbers.

gentry has over 700 career plate apprearances over 3 seasons, its not a small sample size, he's produced very comparable numbers every season at that

hey, i'm just saying that 700 over 3 seasons may not translate to like numbers over 1 500+ season. he has never played a whole season as a starter and neither has Martin. that's one of the reasons Martin ran out of steam late in the season last year

I agree with this. We don't know what he's capable of over 500 PAs in one season. He had the hand injury this year that kept him out for a while.

I love how everyone is willing to go all in with Martin after 1 full season of 500 plate appearances but is skeptical about Gentry after 3 seasons of consistent numbers and 700+ plate appearances

Didn't say it would, but like any other player, he's at least earned a shot, moreso than Martin for sure

I do like the thought of trading with the Cardinals, something like Profar/Moreland for Miller/Adams I think would be a win for both teams.

I am not willing to go all in with either guy. I would love to see Ellsbury on the club and a platoon for left field. I call Martin "platoonys" for a reason.

It's almost a perfect trade for both teams. No one has a clear edge there. Both teams get better and more deep.
