So thats not offense? its not like all this guy hits is little dribblers, he just can beat those out too

What's your point? You think it's a good idea to stand pat in the OF with Martin, Gentry, and Rios? Gentry will be on the team and has a big role, but we can't start the year with that lack of power and RBI production coming from the OF

what?
I didn't say it didn't count as offense. Just pointing out that Gentry's speed has a major role in his offense.

Cruz-ability to hit + power
Gentry-ability to hit + speed

both are obviously valuable offensively

Wouldn't bother me at all, been advocating more PT for Gentry for years, more inclined to have Martin fill the "4th OFer" role than Gentry

That's just it though. Gentry won't get the job over Martin. I guess there's a chance they could both be out there, but if we start the year planning on playing those 2 w/ Rios in the OF, it will be a rough year.

I am really wondering what it would take besides pitching to land EE from the Jays. I've always wanted that dude. He kills it in Texas. Plus when he runs it looks like he has a parrot on his arm.

The numbers beg to differ, I trust the numbers more til proven otherwise

I would be ok with EE, depending on the cost

1B and DH guy, 3B in an emergency

His defense at 1B is PADMY like, but his bat would look so good in the middle of the order.

Gentry's looked fine, its Martin's that sucked

Martin was a rookie though. If he can up that OBP look for him to steal 40-50 bases next season. That's the best thing about he and Gentry both. No matter which plays they are always a threat to run. Just need other bats to knock them in. Guys who can score from first base are incredibly valuable.

They have sucked collectively scoring runs when both out there. That's been my point. We will be in trouble if we start the year with Gentry, Martin, and Rios as our opening day OFers.

Let's not forget Cruz has a distinct possibility of returning.

Gentry scored 23 runs over the last 2+ months of the season in 138 plate appearances, if he had been given 500 plate appearances at that pace, that would've come out to 83 runs, Gentry didn't have problems scoring runs at the end of the year

Martin scored 22 runs in this same time frame, in 204 plate appearances, that comes out to 53 in 500 plate appearances

That coincides pretty well with Cruz's suspension, as he only acquired 19 plate appearances in that same time frame

How many runs did they knock in?

Don't see how that's Gentry's fault if no one is on base, plus he's the #9 hitter, he's not expected to be a RBI guy

He hit .338 with a .454 slugging %, if guys were on base he would've been knocking them in though

But to answer your question, Gentry had 10 RBIs, and Martin despite all his struggles had 29, which actually comes out to 71 RBIs over 500, which isn't bad for your 8 & 9 hitters
