Don't see how that's Gentry's fault if no one is on base, plus he's the #9 hitter, he's not expected to be a RBI guy

He hit .338 with a .454 slugging %, if guys were on base he would've been knocking them in though

That's my point man. You have 2 #9 hitters taking up 2 spots in the OF.

having them take the 8 & 9 spot is not detrimental apparently you can't see that, the numbers are making you look silly

Gentry was definitely not the problem down the stretch

Obviously you're missing my point. The numbers aren't making me look silly. I asked how many they knocked in, and you came back with....they aren't asked to knock people in. I want my COFers knocking guys in. I like Gentry and always have, but I like him as a 4th OF.

If Gentry takes the CF job, great, he would have earned it. My original point was that IMO it's not smart to start the year with both of them in opening day OF.

jta4437 "But to answer your question, Gentry had 10 RBIs, and Martin despite all his struggles had 29, which actually comes out to 71 RBIs over 500, which isn't bad for your 8 & 9 hitters."

You look at it different than me. You look at it as that's not bad from your 8 & 9 hitters, while I look at it as that's not great from a COF bat that I want in the middle of the line-up, not 8 or 9

If your other guys are doing their job you can have a COF that does so much more than the traditional COF in there, problem was not Gentry it was weakness elsewhere

Then you beef up your lineup elsewhere and you leave the guys who actually provide value in other ways

Why did you pull only the numbers from Sept? Stats can always be pulled in ones favor.

Those are the games where Cruz was gone and therefore the only games the 2 would've played together, your request, not mine

Not only that, it took long enough to do just September, much less August

Yes I understand that, but our biggest problems in our line-up was power and hitting w/ RISP. We would get almost no power from that OF. I also don't think Gentry would put up numbers like that if given extended playing time. If he struggles he goes back to the bench. If he's hitting he stays out there. His numbers can be skewed by that some.

Its not that its not smart to do so, its just not traditional to do so

In his career he hasn't shown much of a LH/RH split, less power as you almost always will have, but he's shown himself to be competent against RHPs

That's not the only time they would've played, but ok. Cruz, Martin, and Gentry were out there too, before Rios arrived.

I didn't say anything about his split. I just don't think his numbers would be anywhere close to that over a 150+ game grind. When he slumps as a 4th OFer they just take him out. Not if he's given the starting job.

Seriously dude, I wasn't going to go through every box score to see where they had played together, its the only time they would've played together extensively, Martin and Gentry up til Cruz's suspension played almost exclusively in CF

You want to know, go figure it out for yourself, I gave you September, as much as I was willing to do, you don't want to see the truth, that's you choosing to be ignorant

Thats the only reason he didn't play every day before, was his percieved struggles against RHPs, so I could only assume what you meant
