Spurrier BUILT Florida

Spurrier BUILT South Carolina

Wait.. I like this logic.

Spurrier built Florida... and Florida shit all over OSU.. therefore Spurrier is responsible for the dismantling of OSU. I like it...

Let's keep going with this ... like the song game.

Says "I'm resigning, not retiring...I might go coach a High School team, or something."

Way to run out on your team when they need you the most, asshole!

Naaahhhh, I get it...he just doesn't have it anymore. This is way better than limping through a lost season, losing potential recruits who don't want to commit to a program in an uncertain situation, etc.

Kirby Smart has been mentioned as someone that the University will pursue. Whoever it is, they will have their work cut out for them, and huge shoes to fill.
I'll be in my stall crying for the next week.

He's lost that lovin feelin

Beamer BUILT Virginia Tech, and they're still calling for his head. I don't think it'd be smart for them to fire him but building a program doesn't get you a lifetime contract

That's fair, you never want it to get where it did with Bobby Bowden and there needs to be a little balance between it being the coach's decision, and the program's. Ultimately, the program needs to be bigger than one individual, no matter how great he was.

But when you've sucked for 100 years, are good-to-great for five, and then KNOW that you're probably about to suck for another 100, you don't run off the guy who got you those great five years

yes but Beamer had taken VT to almost the promise land back in his hay day....South Carolina was not good at all until Spurrier got there. Spurrier got there and he turned them into a pretty good program, but not great.

Kirby will try to install Saban's process and demand total control of the program and I don't see either of those working without the recruits.

You are better off hiring a system guy that wins through innovation and discipline.

I watched the press conference today, everything he said made sense, and was in line with things he'd stated before.
(a) SOS has always stated that if he couldn't get the job done, he should be gone. He came to grips with that early in the season (said actually after the UCF game, when we were 2-2), and had let Tanner know this was his last year. The LSU game accelerated the process.
(b) USC needs someone who is going to put more energy into recruiting. He's not that guy anymore.
(c) (very significant) He wanted to give the coaching staff (one of whom is his son) one last chance to stay on, prove themselves (I want them all gone, personally). Giving it up now gives them that shot, maybe pull an absolute miracle and win out.
(d) He said that hanging around when everyone knows you're going to retire (resign is actually the word he used) undermines accountability, and the player's faith in what you're doing. Better to walk away, give the next guy a shot.

"It is what it is".

My opinion...
Fans Divided On Retirement of Spurrier

"Remember those years when Clemson fans actually shut up and stopped thumping their chests on rivalry weekend? It was nothing short of a blessing from God, which makes Spurrier… well, the God of USC football, deserving of praise and worship rather than blasphemy. This may sink in as the fan base waits, and waits, and waits for the resurrection."
There'll be no resurrection. "You tell 'em I'm coming and hell's coming with me!!"

I dont know, but I loved a quote I just heard: One of his QB's threw a big interception, and was upset because he felt it was his fault they lost. Spurrier told him, "Oh, it's not your fault, it's my fault for putting you in (the game)."

Sometimes the truth stings, Spurrier has always been pretty candid, even when it came to his feelings on Jadeveon Clowney. There was no ringing endorsement for Clowney.
