sadly there are some here who apparently are entirely devoid of a sense of humor

When the kid eating blue cake was posted a week ago, it was slightly amusing, but not so much the second time around.

that's what I love about hawk fans...they resort to childish name calling..........

Kind of ironic that you are complaining about name calling in a thread that is making fun of the Seahawks name.

kind of ironic that you would reply, given your propensity for name calling and foul mouth insults. These are traits generally reserved for the young and/or unintelligent.

I was always under the impression that a Seattle Seahawk was an historical nod to the Suquamish tribe of the pacific northwest...being as they were led at one point by Chief Seattle...and it's a mythological bird always displayed at the top of their totem pole for worship and to ward off evil.

But then again.....who knows why not one seahawks fan could explain this.

Well good luck.....but you really ought to click on those 3 links I posted, at least to gain some understanding of this current topic at hand. It'll maybe take just 10-15 min to read. Then you can clue up your buddy the OP as well.

Let's see how much fail is in that 'assumption' of yours (more likely taken off a site that is probably wrong). I'll preface this by saying my family has been involved in native relations for more than 40 years and I spent a lot of my childhood visiting every tribe in this state as well as Oregon and some of it is from memory so I may not be 100%.

His name was Chief Sealth of the Duwamish tribe which is of the coastal Salish region. His dad was chief of the Suquamish, but I don't believe Sealth was, could be wrong.

The actual design for the logo isn't from either. It originated more north and was part of ceremonial masks. The actual bird depicted was an Eagle if I remember, even though the official bird of the team is the Osprey, neither of which is a mythological bird. I only remember that because there was some controversy from the tribes over the exact art used. They wanted them to favor more regional adaptations. The local coastal salish tribes picked up that art form from those alaskan/northern canadian tribes and adapted them to look differently.

Why wouldn't any Seahawk fan answer this honestly? Why feed trolls unless you are only correcting their typical bullshit.

:suds:

I don't need to read it. I already said my memory of tribal history going back 25+ years may be rusty, but as it pertains to how the logo came to be, pretty sure it wasn't made after a mythological bird off of either tribes art. It was a controversy at the time. Whatever site you got that off might be wrong.

Even looking at the logo today, objectively.... it's easy to see the native american influence within it, and how closely it resembles the hawk on top of some totem poles. Not to mention the colors....
blue to represent the sky and water (river/ocean)...and green for the trees and land.

As you probably guessed, the "OP", myself, and others were simply poking a little (off usual topic) fun at what was heretofore generally perceived as an entirely fictitious object. I assure you there was no intention to offend your apparently delicate sensibilities. While I appreciate your offer to share the encyclopedic version of the story, I have to admit that I do not have a vested interest in the more literal aspect of the "seahawk" itself. I'm pretty sure the Chief will understand that no malice was intended. Do however, consider us duly educated on the matter. If its all the same to you though, I will continue to relegate my interpretation of the now famous "seahawk" to the football team currently based in Seattle.

Now can we go back to cutting up and acting like children ?
