Someone tell me please; what the hell is a Seahawk?

Today marks the Chinese New Year, Year of the Horse which I think is fitting this weekend with my Broncos ready to take aim at Seattle, but I just want to know...What the hell is a seahawk anyway? Some mythical bird that a bunch of depressed, rain-soaked Seattlites invented to get them thru the day or just a stupid bird that will eat alka-seltzer and blow up when they're tossed into the air?
