When have the Packers ever done anything in free agency to "put them over the top"? Yet here they are, like every other year the pick for division champs. My point is, we are not a free agency team, and haven't been since Thompsons been there yet we still seem to compete every year so I can't buy that argument. Bulaga and Sitton greatly improve our weak side, and with Dietrich-Smith replacing an obviously past his prime Saturday at center makes for a completely new look Oline. Lang is an average pass blocker at the RG spot, but is strong in the run game and if they are really going to make a commitment to improving in that area he will be an asset. The question is at RT, where there will be 3 guys competing for that spot. Newhouse has been an absolute trainwreck at LT but showed in early 2011 when Bulaga went down for 3 games that maybe thats a better fit for him. Don Barclay filled in here last year and for a rookie, showed alot but still needs work. Sherrod is the wild card. Hes been out of football since late 2011 and nobody except the staff really knows what shape hes in.

Do I think the Bears win one this year? No. Would I be surprised if they did? No. It is bound to happen, numbers and history say so. If it happens its week 17 in your place. I think implementing an offense is going to take time and it might be a few weeks into the season before you guys gel.

Another x-factor is Urlacher. He knew the Packer offense almost as good as the Packers themselves. He was able to get your defense in position and read looks, calls, audibles etc that I am not sure anybody else on your team could do. Going to be alot of pressure on your new LBs to pick that up. He had alot of years of going against that offense on his side. You can't just teach that.

Briggs has been facing the Packers almost as long as Urlacher has and if he hasnt picked up anything from Urlacher about how to read offenses than he wouldnt be calling the plays like he is going to be this year. Beside the two new linebackers Anderson and Williams everyone else on the defense has faced the Packers multiple times and know how they play. I know the Packers arent a Free Agency team but where has that gotten them in the past 10-15 years, 1 Super Bowl win? What I am saying against that is The Bears when playing the Pack always compete and stay in games until Cutler messes it up with his bad decisions. We have done a lot to put us over that hump while the Pack have stayed neutral. The Packers had one of the worst running games and offensive lines last year in the league and see nothing that they did to really improve that. Sure they put their best OL in Bulaga on the left side but thats not saying much at all. We arent going to be running the predictable Lovie Smith offense that we have been running for the past 9 years and dont see how your defense is going to pick up on in within the first year.

I have to disagree w/your statement. I think week 9 will provide our best chance. We'll be coming off a bye week. Which will give T-man an extra week to prepare & implement some stuff that Capers hasn't seen from us the first 8 weeks. I know the games @ your place. But if the extra week doesn't help then. I don't like our chances in week 17.

I wouldnt say putting Bulaga at LT is really improving your offensive line too much. The rest of the NFC North defensive lines will destroy your O line still.

I wouldn't really say overpaying for an overrated LT and drafting Kyle Long has improved yours either. Most Saints fans are quite happy Bushrod is gone because he was just average. So where does that leave your O line against these NFC North defensive lines?

Giving up only 4 sacks last year and 3 before that is a hell of a lot better than Webb has done in the past. He is going to be coming into a familiar system like he was running over in NO and it will help his game play. Honestly now having Kromer has our O Line coach I feel that better about protecting the rest of the Norths line.

I could go on and on about Kyle Long so I will leave it at this....Kyle Long is a monster with amazing physical ability and could move around anywhere on the offensive line. Yes he might not be that player in his first year but in the near future guys like Matthews, Allen, Suh, etc wont be a threat at all.

Number 1 we have to Beat Green Bay, Lovie tried but Failed!. last years opener w GB was a huge game for us, our defense played great but then we gave up 7 on the fake FG, its coming though, this team is built to Beat Greenbay, new type of offense, new type of coach and a defense that is playing for future contracts, they all know whats at stake, its Very Clear.!
:agree:
I think our losses vs GB can be blamed on the OCs. Capers seemed to controll our O as he seemed fit. I really thought Martz had a shot vs him, but never had the O-Line to fit his scheme.
T-man is breath of fresh air to me as a Bear fan. We'll find out how good a mind T-man is come week 9. He'll have an extra week to prepare for our rivals.

My question is why is drafting Long going to improve your OL while drafting two really solid college RBs not us imporivng our running game...not to mention getting some linemen back that were hurt last year.

Even addressing the running game, which we havent done in years, is going to vastly improve it because we only need the threat of a running game to make our passing game more dangerous so if even even get mediocre play out of the running game it will be an improvement.

I like what you guys did at RB. I guess the question is, will it matter for 2 reasons. 1. The Oline could not block for your other RBs so what has changed? 2, McCarthy will move away from the run game even if it is doing great. My personal thoughts is, if GB can/will run the your offense will be scary scary scary. Could be the biggest move of all 4 N teams. Time will tell.

We can only hope! I like Cutler, but he's not as elite as Rodgers; probably never will be, but they always have a chance if GB self-destructs like they did a couple years ago with 18 penalties and a defense that pushed Rodgers into QB errors! The line will be a determinant and we all know this already! We just have to be honest to what's going on out there on the field!

I said The Packers running game will improve but it wont be a dominating force in the NFL and they will revert back to their old playing form which is pass first. Long will improve our OL down the road because he will become the leader, very flexible and is just a monster of a player that will stop players like Matthews, Suh, etc. That is one of the biggest reasons Emery drafting him is to go against the tougher lineman in the North.

I wish we could beat green bay, but when the bears passed on eddie lacy the steam roller running back and he went to the packers, its gonna be a while before we can beat the pack again.

Of course, we still need to see what kind of offense and defense this team ends up playing and how the linebackers gel before anyone has a clue how this team is gonna do against anyone.

The O line could block we just didn't have the talent in the backfield. Harris had a very good average per carry when he came in at the end of last year. James Starks can't stay healthy and Alex Green is no more than a third down back who also is injury prone. Also, you guys know more than anyone how Benson is. Getting rid of Saturday helped as well as he was WAAAY past his prime.

First off why would the Bears pick Eddie Lacy??? Second what about him scares you so much that the Bears cant stop him or beat the Packers?

For how good the Packers organization is at bringing in players and really making them produce on the field, I was extremely confused on why they ever signed Benson to help their running game out. What makes you think Eddie Lacy will be able to stay healthy and on the field anymore than Starks or Green can?

Packers have a OL.

Bears neglected it for years.

Flip flop the QB's and Rodgers is the one running from defenders with no time to throw.

I'm saying that the OL makes the QB look good giving him time.

Long is a project though from a school (Oregon) that loves the hurry style with 80-90 % of the plays running. Pass blocking will be the key thing to watch from him.

Just like Gabe Carami couldn't pass block coming from a run majority of the time offense at Wisconsin.

Rodgers is the most sacked QB over the last 5 years. Cutler the most hit. How does that = a good line in GB?

I would not call Long a project of a player just because the lack of experience he has. Yes he did play in a hurried offense in college and although it wont be that fast here in Chicago, we will still be running a high tempo offense. He is perfect for pulling and lead blocking and using his strength verse the nastier DT's and DE's in the league. Once he starts this year he will be very productive but 2-3 years for now he will be a pro bowl player ever year. There is no comparison between Long and Carimi at all.

I remember his 1st year he was sacked too much which lead to him on top of stats charts in picks.

Going have to look up that stat then over his starting career vs Cutler.

Well he can't be worst then J'Marcus Webb. No one can't.

Will be watching him on pas blocking early in the season. But the talk on sports radio here is he might not start right off the bat.
