You gotta REQUIRE we sign either Snell or Monty at this point, if not both.

Our opening day rotation…

Webb
Hairston
???
???
???

Looks like 40% openers again this year, folks.

Hoping for Montgomery at this point.

Don't like the fact that the Giants are leaning so heavily, even with a big name signing, on openers. I think that Ryan Walker's late season meltdown was due to overuse. Same with Brebbia. Both were heavily used as openers.

In a recent Sporting News article FZ is qouted as saying he doesnt't see them looking for any more atarting pitching depth at this point. With the signing of Hicks he feels we are set in that departmenr.
This is starting to unfold just like rhe article LHG posted earlier

I don't want Snell. I don't want Belli. I don't want Chap.

Projections from MLBTR:

Belli - 12/264. That's insane for a guy who was almost out of baseball two years ago. Pass

Snell 7/200. Brilliant 2023. Not brilliant 2019-2022. Odds he's a 4+ WAR guy most years? Pass.

Chapman 6/150. Great defender, declining hitter who is now league average. Will absolutely not be worth $25M a year from 2026 onward. Pass.

All those guys will be albatrosses (albatri?) halfway through their bloated deals. Monty has a good chance to deliver value

Montgomery 6/150. Solid pitcher who will take the ball 30 times. #2 numbers, including ERA+ and WAR. He's 30, so expecting production through his mid 30s isn't silly.

1. That's opening day, as of Feb 2.
2. You're forgetting Hicks
3. I think they give Winn and Beck every chance to make the rotation.
4. They likely pick up a SP (I'm betting Monty)
5. Cobb will be back in May
6. Ray will likely be back in June.

Not nearly as bleak as you're painting it.

This move just makes more and more sense as I think it through.

1. Cox goes to Eugene
2. Roster spot opens up
3. Cox plays SS and OF...very FZ
4. $12.5M off the books

If you're setting up to sign a FA, this is what you do.

I believe the Giants sent $3 million to the A'ssss in the trade, so really $9.5 million off the books. Pocket change. Walking around money.

Tbf, that was said before he dumped Strip. That kinda changes the landscape.

Per Johnson, it is very unlikely we get a serious addition to the rotation this off season.

So they pivot to sign a DH when none is needed. :L

KLaw released his top 100 prospects this morning:

11. Kyle Harrison
84. Marco Luciano
85. Bryce Eldridge

HM: Martin, Arias, Whisenhunt.
The rankings are all over the place this year.

First I have seen Martin listed anywhere. When we got him, I talked to my coworker who lives in Philly and is a die-hard Philly fan (he is at our level of following his team). He hated to see Martin go, but he said the Phil’s were deep enough in similar prospects that it wasn’t too big an issue.

Nice to see Arias start to appear, even if it is only on HM lists. He has potential to be a top prospect eventually.

Giants "in talks" with Jorge Soler.

I'd be perfectly fine with Soler...he'd immediately be our best hitter.

I sense that if we sign him, there will be 'bUt I tHoUgHt FaRhAn WaS gEtTiNg YoUnGeR aNd MoRe AtHlEtIc!!!" Skrees.

If we don't sign him there will be 'FaRhAn Is UsElEsS' Skrees.

Anyway, I hope we get him and Monty. Or get Adames and Peralta from the Brewers.

Plus you’d have to guess if Soler is a Giant, Conforto would be gone. If that is the case I’d be all for it.

Hey, the FO has gotten rid of most of last year's bad signings. Maybe Conforto will be next. Still not sure about signing Soler.

Are you basing that on his 128 OPS+ in 2023 or his career OPS+ of 113? Prior to 2023, he posted back to back seasons with slightly below average OPS+. I wouldn't gamble on him replicating last season.

And, based on what little I've seen from the posters on this forum about signing him, I really doubt the latter of your skrees will come to pass if he is not signed.

Got him just cash. Doesn’t look great, but he is young and has pedigree.
I'm a bit surprised that the Brewers gave up on him so quickly. Barely gotten any big league action and got converted to the bullpen rather quickly after a quick ascent to AAA. He could turn out to be another Tyler Beede but I like this acquisition.
