I don't know if Rhys Hoskins was much of a fit for the Giants. They're just not athletic enough to add another defensively-limited position player even if it was on the type of contract that the front office prefers.
I would have been ecstatic if the Giants got him, but he is not free of warts. If the Giants determined that he was not a target (he was never linked to us in the media and I only heard rumors from no-names on the inner-webs), I am OK with that strategy.

I wonder if we are going to resign Belt now ? And don’t we need a backup shortstop? :nono:

Seems like a pretty big overpay for something we already have on the roster, who is cheaper.

I fear it’s Chapman. Krukow has bet his “credibility” on KNBR multiple times that the Giants will sign someone of substance this off-season (besides Lee).

Also my fear .... I have read (somewhere) that FZ is pretty much moved away from looking for another SP. They said he was satisfied with the Ray and Hicks pickup. The only big splash left is Chapman ...

After all is said and done with this off season ... it may look very much like the article that LHG posted .... much to do about ..... almost nothing ...

He has to hope that Lee is really something 'special' ....

I really REALLY do not want Chappy and the 200+ Ks he brings.

One interesting detail with the rotation this year is how many innings Kyle Harrison will be allowed to throw. He completed 102 innings last year, which was 11 innings short of the 113 he pitched in 2022. Fangraphs projections has him between 115-140 innings. I think the Giants would be happy with 140 innings.

Giants rumored to be in talks with the Cards for a "middle infielder"

My guess is Edman. Plays everywhere, average bat, solid defender. Good backup plan for Lucy. Gotta figure VR is part of that trade.

Bart + VR for Edman?
Not sure how I feel about that. I know his wife (she briefly played softball at the university I worked at) but I feel like he would be a bit redundant. Does he play super utility? I'd hate to see Bart and Villa go, but as cal says, they aren't getting any more chances with the Giants.

I don’t see either being worth your worry. I had high hopes for both, but they just can’t sustain any momentum be it injury or slump. Best case scenario for both right now seems to be serviceable backup catcher and decent platoon mate.

Not gonna lie, I wanted Burnes. That said, I'm not sure he was worth Lucy, Whiz, and a first rounder.

Rumors are FZ is going to trade for Adames. I guess that moves Lucy to 3b

Why Adames? He isn't that good offensively.

We couldn’t trade a 1st if we wanted to. Baltimore had a comp balance pick, which are the only picks that can be traded, and even those can not be re-traded (meaning Milwaukee couldn’t trade it if the wanted to).

And I am not familiar with the guys Baltimore gave up. Are they equivalent to Lucy and Whiz? That is a HELL of a haul if they are. And infuriating that Baltimore has these guys ON TOP of all the stud kids they have kicked out recently and still have in the pipeline.

per the analysis I've been reading on the inter webs, Lucy + Whiz is equivalent to Hall and Ortiz

This move just makes more and more sense as I think it through.

1. Cox goes to Eugene
2. Roster spot opens up
3. Cox plays SS and OF...very FZ
4. $12.5M off the books

If you're setting up to sign a FA, this is what you do.
