I wonder if we had not made that trade, held onto Crouse, and drafted better in the 2nd and 3rd rounds, if we would not be about 5th or 6th in the systems rankings.

Probably not that high. The butterfly effect is unavoidable, though. Doing one thing differently (Lowe trade) causes something else later to be different as well, not necessarily for the better. Best case scenario, hypothetically, maybe we're 8th or 9th. But also, no one wins championships for having the best farm.

No they don't, but it is part of what is necessary if you don't spend in the $200 million a year range.

True. But going from 24th to 11th is one hell of a leap, and I have to give the FO credit for it. If they can build upon that with next year's draft and land a few upper echelon FA's this winter and next, then you've got the makings of a seasonal contender.

One thing to consider about how the draft could have affected our farm rankings is this. Detroit and Kansas City are ranked 5th and 7th and they picked guys after our 2nd round pick who are in their top 10 overall.

No, it doesn't take anything away from what they accomplished. They accomplished a lot.

There was room to get even better though and they didn't do that.

I would be thrilled just to get back what we gave up. Two of the players we gave up are at #11 and #26 in the Rays system. The Rays system ranks as the 6th best in baseball.
I like Nate Lowe. This is his age 25/26 season. Just getting started. If Jung comes up mid next season and hits .260 with limited power then hits .265/.350 with decent power in 2023 one would expect 2024 he will break out and be a .270/.350 25 homer guy who I think we would all be happy with. I feel Lowe will be a .270/.355/.460 player next year. 25-30 homeruns and 30 doubles.
like Paul Goldschmidt of 2021/2019.

Lowe becoming a 30/30 hitter is definitely a bold prediction.

Not sure they're in the future plans regardless of Lowe being here or not
Not sure either but to see what we’ve got we have to see all the options at the mlb level and not for 15, 20, 25 games are so

Eh we shall see. He’s up there with some of the prime time hitters in exit velocity. 91.3 MPH. Ranked Around 28-33 in all of baseball. He’s a big dude. First full year at the big league level. Did a 30/30 type season in the minors across 3 leagues in 2018 at the age of 22.
Seems to be a patient hitter and makes good contact. I think he will come in with more confidence next year.
wouldn’t be surprised to see a huge run from him these last 36 games.

To me, if Huff was going to be moved to 1B then we had no business trading for Lowe. Once they traded for Lowe they committed themselves to Huff at catcher. If they are not committed to Huff staying at catcher for the next 3 or 4 years, then the Lowe trade was a colossal blunder even if we hadn't of overpaid for him.

He seemed to have a whole lot of confidence in April and May, maybe too much.

Yeah he started April off pretty well
Some people just don’t perform well when they’re on a losing team. I honestly believe we will open up next year with a more potent line up and better protection for all.
It should be a more exciting club to watch next year.

who do you think they will pick up offense wise?
They are saying they’re going to be aggressive this off-season.

I have no idea what to expect. I know what I want, but they rarely act as I think they should.

When I said he had a lot of confidence i wasn't meaning good results. I was referring to his swagger during some of those post-game videos of the clubhouse.
