Marlins acquire Robertson from the Mets.

This seems very cheap for Robertson.

"A source told MLB.com's Mark Feinsand that the Marlins parted with infielder Marco Vargas, their No. 18 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, and catcher Ronald Hernandez (No. 21)."

That's a very modest price to pay for a dominant rental reliever.
If CY pulls something similar off I'd be thrilled.

I can believe we didn't try to beat that or why we couldn't.

Perhaps they're focused on a couple of other players. The report of them wanting to land a SP and a reliever in the same trade sounds like a Texas type of thing to do.

Overall, the Marlins were ranked 18th and the Rangers 7th as far as our minor league systems go. So their 18th and 21st prospects would be even further down in our system. Maybe one in the lower 20s and the other in the mid 20s. Something like Kelly and Acosta.

Yeah, I don't like that tactic because in doing so they would severely limit their possibilities and thus drive up the final price. I hope Evan is wrong about that.

Speas was really roughed up tonight for Round Rock.

I am not sure that if we are looking for a starter and a relief pitcher why we didn't trump the Angels for Giolito and Lopez. They didn't give up much for two decent rentals. I am not sure what we are doing.

Seeing this and then if the Rangers end up with a guy like Kelly it makes you wonder why or if the Rangers were ever in on Robertson at all

They were top 5 prospects for a system ranked in the 20s, but apparently Quero was on the fringe of the top 100

I just don’t want to overpay. Especially after all those years of teams lowballing us. The only year it seemed like we got value back recently was the gallo trade.

It's not an auction, and also from what I've read, Mets fans are confused by the trade.

They need pitching, and the Marlins have lots of pitching prospects.

Not a formal one, no. It is a market though. It is a market where the known commodities are available to be inquired about by any tesm that wants to.

I am just surprised that the Mets didn't get more for him from some team needing bullpen help, including the Rangers. That could very well fall at the feet of the Mets and the Mets alone though.
