I disagree. He has a lot of value.

he went fir 2 firsts last year. They can get at least one back imo.
You’re saying Cov isn’t a bad contract and I somewhat agree. But he’s a luxury for a team rebuilding and he’s relatively expensive. What I was saying is that Portland doesn’t have the leverage to demand that they ship a contract they don’t want along with Dame. I think that’s the case for Cov and Jones. I think it will be just Dame that goes. I also think you’ll see guys like Cov shopped after that in separate deals.

i think cov fits basically any team.
Good help defender and can shoot the 3.

they can definitely trade him for an asset. Philly would be smart to try and get him back.

port may just eat jones if they sell fir Simmons since they aren’t contending anyway.

Like I said in that Simmons trade thread towards the start, a Lillard/Simmons deal works out salary-wise as is so you're not gonna have to tinker with it much at all and its probably the best deal Portland could get returning value. Simmons, Maxey, couple of picks and a couple pick swaps. You're getting an all star back for Dame that's still young. It'll be difficult to find that in any other trade scenario.
The problem is that Simmons isn't worth a store brand roll of toilet paper on offense and is marginally above average defensively.

Dame has been cozying up with Jason Tatum in Vegas. Rumbles up here are that the C's might be willing to offer up Jalen Brown.

Stevens first move caught everyone by surprise when shipped out Kemba. Beal seemed to be the move but he's a Covid Olympic loss and not looking like he wanted or cared about getting vaccinated. Owners are getting very concerned about players' refusal to vaccinate.

Marginally above average defensively?

You are way off base here. Like not even close.

I guess BigKen doesn't watch basketball. Simmons is an NBA all-defense team guy for a reason. Very few people can guard 1-5 well. Simmons is an unicorn defensively.

Unfortunately, his offensive game is trash for an NBA guard. He either has to improve or back to forward like he played at LSU.

It’s what Mass Holes do. You can’t talk sports with New Englanders outside of baseball. Celtics were gonna pursue Beal but oh well he doesn’t want to be vaccinated so there goes that plan.

If the Sixers pursued Cov it would assuredly entail losing Thybulle who has similar game (projecting him getting 4-5% on his 3 pt shot at some point) and is younger and cheaper. I think if the Cs are in on Lillard that would entail shipping Smart in most deals I’ve seen. I think in that circumstance the Cs would really value bringing back Cov more than the Sixers would and that’s a product of Thybulle. Of course if they have to deal Thybulle then Cov’s value would increase for the Sixers.

Your opinion. He gets a lot of free press about his supposed defense, because he sucks offensively. A key player who only takes five shots in the final two games of a playoff series ain't worth shit. His defense was atrocious in that series and he set his value as worthless.

There literally isn’t a better perimeter defender in the entire league. You are flat wrong to call him marginally above average. There is no legit case to be made for that opinion.

And he usually isn’t a zero offensively either. He was in the playoffs because he lost all semblance of confidence.

And to a certain extent, the presence of a dominant 5 is not a great pairing for the offensive skills he does possess right now. I think for where his game is now, he can already be more impactful offensively for nearly any team not named Denver Lakers and Philly.

I would love to see him land with the Knicks but just like with everything else the Knicks will find out a way to screw it up

Might just be Philly honestly.

Think he would fit well in Denver, and while not great in LA, I do believe it would be better than Philly. LeBron would be the ideal mentor for him also.

If I'm Portland I want Simmons and Thybulle with 2 1s.

I actually think Portland is better next year if they get that deal

That team had shooting already. What they can't do worth a damn is defend

Adding 2 of the 10 best defenders in the league abd a guy who sets up shooters better than almost anyone in the NBA is a good deal for them

They're not winning shit with their current roster abd more importantly it had no upside left

Adding 2 1s, Ben and Mattise gives them a better shot to win in the future

Boston could probably get him from port (assuming a lillard trade) for TT and two firsts.

Or maybe a first and Pritchard

with the jays they can shop for a 2 or a 4 cause they slide up or down the spectrum.

I also have faith that Madar is going to be a dude

Simmons offense right now is transition, drive and kick or drive and finish (not enough), and he can post smaller covers with improving success and moves. He is a passer out of the post as well. I just think with Denver he would need to be in the same spots on the floor as Jokic would be. Jokic just clearly does it better. And I think Simmons game is a bad pairing with LeBron personally.

Seriously? Simmons is one of less than a handful of players who can effectively guard 1-5. He has the size to stay with bigs and the speed and quickness to stick with guards. He may be arguably the best wing defender in the league.

Too much is being made of his shooting issues. Yes, they are a problem. When you're passing up a dunk on a player 10 inches shorter than you because you're afraid you'll be fouled and have to shoot free throws...that's a problem.

But it's not like he's a net negative offensively. He is an excellent ballhandler, has elite vision and is an elite passer. He's also a very strong finisher at the rim.

Again, he has to fix the free throw shooting and has to at least develop a midrange jumper to reach his full potential, you make it sound like there's nothing to work with there.

Simmons doesn't need a mentor. He needs a guy with enough cache to put his foot in Ben's ass and say " nah homeboy you're not going out. You're going to the gym to work on your game or your ass will be buried on the bench "

Unfortunately for Ben there aren't many guys like that in the league

Eh, I can see your point. Simmons is basically younger Lebron minus the average jump shot. So, its a redundancy.

I disagree though, because of Lebron's age. Lebron isn't looking to control the offense all game long anymore. The Lakers need another playmaker. They could take turns playing off the ball and they are still a threat as playmakers. They could also play more in the post when they are off ball.

Doesn't matter because the Lakers aren't getting him anyway unless they're part of some weird 3 team deal that no one's thought of yet.

But fun to talk about.
