You’re asking me if I read every single one of your nonsense posts?

I think you know the answer now...
You don't read anything past whatever word hacks you off, then the mouth starts running. Jim Tressell went from a 1AA HC to "winning" the "national championship" at Ohio State, Urban Meyer went from a "group of 5" school to winning it all at Florida, Spurrier went from Duke to Florida and won it all, Keep am\n eye on Tom Herman who moved fro a G% school and is looking good at Texas. To say experience at a job doesn't matter is just ridiculous.

I read something about Neal knowing how to work a room. He’d go to the golf event not to play golf, but to work the crowd that was there.

All the guy has to do is win. And, win big.

Cause all of that other shit don’t matter if you don’t...

You crack me up.

You cite the few examples of success that everybody already knows about. Those are obviously the exceptions. Because there are literally 100x more failures than that level of success ever being seen.

Duke doesn’t fit the argument. While they were a struggling football team, they were a member of an ACC school. That’s the kind of move I wanted to see happen at WVU this year. I knew it could happen because you kept telling me how great a destination WVU was for lower level P5 schools.

Yea , in the end that has to happen but like we’ve talked about, gotta have the money/deep pocket folk doin their part or it ain’t happening regardless of who the coach is. Looks like we have upgraded in that area so far (knockin on wood).
I like the guy, I think it IS similar to when Utah hired Urban Meyer from BG as well as some of the other examples. Alot of guys can coach ball, but its a different animal to the a good HBC meaning the total package that goes along with that position.

We’ll see what happens but my gut says we see the practice facility addressed in fairly short order here now that Lyons has “his guy” and the type of guy who can work the money guys/gals a little easier than Dana could but again, we’ll see, its still early on.

You crack me up as well, my friend. 90% of the people in America understand that experience at a job matters, yet you want to argue that because you say so it doesn't. You want to list off two or three coaches who made the jump from a coordinator straight to HC at major schools as proof of your argument. When I need heart surgery, I will take the guy who has done the operation before, even at a smaller hospital over the guy who just handed the surgeon the tools making his first attempt at the surgery........Holgorsen left because he had hit HIS ceiling, we have a new coach that is nearly universally viewed as an upgrade, enjoy the success or gloat on the failure, but stop harping nonsense!!!!

But its been MORE than proven that Coaches CAN step in from a Coordinators job and be just as successful...

yes CAN, but as a rule, proven HCs do better. There is a reason that the blue bloods poach head coaches who have won at a lower level, and that is one of the reasons they remain blue bloods.

What schools constitute the blue bloods?

the Ohio St - hired their OC to be the next HC

OU - hired their OC to replace Stoops

USC - removed interim tag from Helton... who was the OC prior.

On the flip side...

ND hired Brian Kelly. Kelly certainly has risen through the ranks of college football.

UofM - hired Harbaugh. Rose through the ranks. Wasn't he unemployed when hired?

UT - hired Herman from UH after 2 successful seasons there.

Bama - hired Saban from NFL.

I found an article looking at the strength of off-season coaching hires in 2011.

At the top of the list...

1. Wazzou - Leach
2. the Ohio State - Meyer

3. Zona - RichRod

4. UNC - Fedora. Was a rising star out of Southern Miss.
5. Ole Miss - Freeze. Rising star out of Arky St.
6. Illini - Beckman. Rising star our of DAD's MAC... overseeing an improving Toledo team.
7. A&M - hired Sumlin from UH.

8. UCLA - hired Mora from the NFL.
9. KU - hired Weis. Previous HC at ND. Long time OC in the NFL.

Another article from a couple of years ago looked at the next top HC candidates...

1. Herman, UH. We know he's moving UT forward.
2. Rhule, Temple. Moved to a tough BU situation.
3. Fleck, WMU. Moved to Minn. 12-13 as HC after taking over a 9-4 team.
4. Brohm, WKU. Moved to Purdue. 13-13 record. 6-7 this year.
5. Satterfield, Appy St. Just hired by UofL.
6. Taggert, USF. Hired by Oregon and then FSU last year. FSU finished 5-7 this year.
7. Harsin, BSU. Still there.
8. Wells, Utah St. Recently hired by TT.
9. Calhoun, AF. Still there.
10. Morris, SMU. Hired by Arky. Finished 2-10 his first year.

Obviously, a two year sample is too small. But, how many more years do any of these coaches have to show what they can do? Two max?

Ranking of 2015 coaching hires... one year later...

Ranking college football's 2015 coaching hires, one year later

Ranked coaches 1-15. Looking at P5 hires... and one special exception...

2. Harbaugh, UofM (10-3). Still hasn't won anything significant. Can't beat tOSU...
3. McElwain, UF (10-4). Earned his stripes as HC at Colo. St. He was fired last year with team at 4 wins.
4. Narduzzi, Pitt (8-5). Was the DC for Mich St before coming to Pitt. Won the ACC Coastal this fall.

10. Anderson, Oreg. St (2-10). Left Wisky after dispute with the AD. Successful at Utah St and Wisky. Fired in yr 3.
11. Beaty, KU (0-12). Fired this year. First time HC didn't go so well.

15. Brown, Troy (4-8). He's ours now.

OMG you're ridiculous. WVU is not going to draw a coach from another P5 program. 1. WE DON'T PAY ENOUGH!!!!! Good God, Houston is paying Dana marginally better than what we did. 2. What P5 program is so undesirable that coming to WVU is a better gig? Anybody? I'll wait. 3. Why do you want a coach from a P5 program? If they jump ship on another P5 school, they're not going to be loyal to WVU. Even Dick Rod wasn't loyal and he was "one of us".

I would much rather have a coach who is on the rise. Who turned a perennial loser into a winner. I want someone like Don Nehlen!

AND USC absolutely tanked this year after going 11-3 last year, guess we will see what next year brings
OU seems to have hit it out of the park with Riley
tOSU, Day has yet to coach HIS team with HIS coaches and players, we will keep an eye on him as time goes by.

This is the first time I can remember tOSU promoting from within, rather than hiring a HC from somewhere else.

So after ONE year at Troy you want to condemn Brown, not looking at the three years since of 10+ win seasons? WOW
Everything I have read says that Brown to WVU is an A hire.
2018 CFB coach hiring *and* firing grades, updated
West Virginia is lucky Neal Brown was available to hire
