Well there are many in the fanbase that are EXCITED that Dana is on his way back to Texas..albeit to semi east Texas ... I know it hasn't hit anyone yet..but this is a black eye for Wv ...a P5 coach leaving for a well what ever you call it school...Congratulations to us as a fanbase, the program has become a stepping stone school...and in this case a stepdown school....

So here is Lyin' Shane Lyons big chance to bring in his GUY, and by the looks of the list, he didn't make too many friends at Alabama..

I have also read several threads on different sites that are clamoring for this coach or that coach..one that keeps popping up is Richard Rodriguez...the same Coach that jilted the school in a Mall parking lot in Toledo Ohio after running tail from a 13-9 infamous historic loss in program's history...the same Richard Rodriguez that was fired in a scandal at Arizona.. either we have the most forgiving fanbase, or the dumbest fanbase in the country...or just a group trying relive the good Ole' Days...with that...and keeping in mind what the FANS WANT.I say give them what they want!..here is my Staff....

Head Coach: Rich Rodriguez
Asst Head Coach OC: Art Briles
HC Consultant: Lane Kiffin
Defensive HC: Bo Pellini
Defensive Line Coach: Tevita Finau ( aka Big Foot)
Offensive Line Coach: Benji Kemoeatu
DB Coach: Dennis Erikson...would have put Sandusky here ..but coaching via facetime may prove difficult..
LB Coach:Gary Banett
RB/WR Coach:RICK NEUHEISEL
Quality Control Coach Dennis Franchione

There you have it...and all star coaching staff !

BS, it is a black eye for Holgorsen, he saw that even with a loaded team HE couldn't get the job done! He saw the writing on the wall, he was NOT getting a raise for sub par performance and knew he would probably be fired after an even worse season next year. The politics and "CEO crap" that he complains about at a P5 school were too much for him, he went to a place where there is less expected to partake in the stuff he hates to do, his drinking buddy will look out for him, he has $20 million guaranteed in his pocket. He had hit his ceiling here and was NOT getting it done, good split for both parties. I know you are in love with him, but look at the last several years, is the team progressing? I would say yes, but slowly, VERY slowly. His teams have suffered from three issues from my view, lack of discipline, lack of conditioning, and the lackadaisical attitude. I am excited for the future, Hlogorsen went to a place he loves, WVU has a chance to get a coach that brings the fan base back together, we have been split for ten+ years as a fanbase and it is time to bury the hatchet

DAD...Unbelievable ...I saw these very same comments from other fans when Bobby Bowden was HC...

Please explain lack of discipline...unlike his predecessors none of his kids showed up on a police blotter...that includes your beloved Billy Stewart..

Dana's team this year will put more kids in the pros than any of his predecessors combined!..

what does lackadaisical attitude look like?

Tell me...does this sound all too familiar...

Every single season thereafter would be served on one-year contracts. Off the field, Bowden befriended Marshall University, opening his coaching offices in the wake of the unfathomable grief of the Herd’s team dying in a plane crash. He consoled a young West Virginia native and Kent State student Nick Saban on the loss of a father Bobby knew well, going so far as to offer Saban a job at West Virginia.

Life was far from perfect. Especially that October day in 1970 when Bowden at midseason held a commanding 35-8 halftime lead in his first Backyard Brawl as the boss. The game was in Pittsburgh where "they had no intention of coming back in the second half. Pitt went with three tight ends in the second half to slow the game down thinking we would score 60. Well we were small and Pitt went for it on every fourth down and started to get momentum."

He let out a long breath, pausing for a moment before the memories rushed back. It has been 44 seasons.

"I went out and sat on the ball" Bowden continued. "They beat us 36-35. I was so embarrassed. I told myself that I would never do that again. Not if I scored 100 points. People accused me of running up scores at Florida State. They should have been with us that day. I coached my team from then on. And I never sat on the football a single game the rest of my career."

You’ve perhaps heard the tale of Bowden being hung in effigy following a 4-7 year in 1974, racked by injuries. And of slipping on winter ice in his driveway, a reminder better weather awaited in the Sunshine State.

what proved to be his final home game in Old Mountaineer Field nearly bonded him to West Virginia’s woods for life. Come this Saturday, the old grads and young lads will relive with Bowden and his returning lettermen the final frantic seconds when powerhouse Pitt was stunned by Bobby’s razzmatazz.

One of college football’s most dazzling success stories in 1975 was Johnny Majors’ Panthers. On the ascent — two years shy of the Tennessee great returning to his alma mater with then-Pitt defensive coordinator Jackie Sherrill assuming command to lead the school to a national championship — the Panthers offense featured the acclaimed Tony Dorsett. was at all levels — in high school, collegiately and through a storied run with the Dallas Cowboys — as talented as anyone to have played the game. The future Heisman Trophy winner and Pro Football Hall of Fame immortal had been unstoppable the week before against Army and would amass a Pitt record 303 yards rushing the following week against Notre Dame. But in West Virginia’s sunken bowl, resounding with the emotion of a roaring crowd, Dorsett was targeted on every carry. These yards came at a punishing price. And even sporting All-American quarterback Matt Cavanaugh, the Panthers were on the ropes late in the 4th quarter of a 14-14 tie.

This was Bowden’s hour.

Bobby had recruited and groomed rock solid quarterback Dan Kendra. Wide receiver Danny "Lightning" Buggs played to his nickname as Bowden’s first two-time All-American. Dave Van Halanger, a Pittsburgh native and later invaluable FSU assistant coach, was a hulking Mountaineer offensive lineman, buying time and creating push. And a one-time walk-on played an important role, hauling in two passes on the day.

With the football at the 21-yard line, Bowden turned to another walk-on. A kicker named Bill McKenzie. Given all the ensuing years that would offer Wide Right and Wide Left and national titles vanishing outside the uprights, this was the height of irony. Bowden’s greatest moment was about to come off the squared toe of a blond haired conventional style specialist, from 38 yards away.

Insert the TEXAS GAME here..............

Take your blinders off for a second, football discipline........the whole team forgets how to play at times, just takes whole series off. I know that you are crying right now and butthurt, but Holgorsen was not making progress, was demanding more money for less performance. Holgorsen may turn out to be the next saban, but he isn't getting it done here. I wish him luck, he ran a clean program and I thank him for his time here. BUT, it was time

Slaton, we've had MANY players arrested. It's kept quiet, and Dana took action quickly.

I’d say Dana averaged close to 1 arrest per year.

List'em here brother..
I do recall three arrested in Star City for armed robbery. (I knew the arresting officer.) Don't recall their names, but they were all dismissed from the team.

I tend to forget about the incidents once they're handled. Dana was good at handling it. No RR bs.

Dana couldn't get the job done?

For WVU fans, this is the issue that divides us... the issue that has divided us since Rich left us for the Maize and Blue.

What was the job he couldn't get done? Win the conference championship? For many of us, we expect championships every single year. So, I get that.

But, was it realistic for this year's team? Vegas put our over/under win total at 7. Despite playing an 11 game schedule, we won 8 in the regular season. Big 12 media placed us at #2 in their preseason poll. I think we received as many first place votes as teams like KSU though.

I was hoping for a special season. Started a thread on why I thought it could happen.

In the end, we did not have enough luck nor enough defensive difference makers... to get the job done this year.

The ISU game was a shock to me. The defense showed their lack of fundamentals and discipline in the game. Will totally melted. The Okie St and OU games showed all of us... 6 qtrs of atrocious defense.

I know... who's responsible for the lack of defensive players... who's responsible for the quality of CB's on the team?

JMO, but just the fact that this year's team... with all of the injuries... departed personnel... added grad transfers... came close to being special. In the end, they fell 7 points short of their goal of being in a position to win the Big 12. For me, that is significant and illustrates a great coaching job.

A job that should have been rewarded.

But, it wasn't...

And, now... it's next man up...

Cmon man we are all fans on here who like to give each other grief. Getting rid of Holgs may be the best thing to get the fan base back together.

No balls needs to step up to the plate and make a good hire that the fan base can get behind. It’s a new era now. The Stew v Holgs debate is ancient history now. Holgs haters got their wish and Holgs lovers know that he wanted out of Dodge. Had “See I really have Balls” caved-into his demands, he would still use WVU as a stepping stone to a new job.

I think we can quit calling Lyons "no balls" his dealings with Holgorsen the past month or so showed some sack contents.
