Makes sense...

Of course, WVU should have had more 9 and 10 win seasons. A couple of fluke bounces and mishaps...

2012 - WVU - ref's cheated WVU on TCU OT pass. WVU wins. WVU's defense mistakes cost OU game.

2015 - WVU should have won the Okie St game in regulation. A couple of deep fumbles cost them. Should have won the KSU game but KOR and missed assignment on passing play were flukes. Cost us a 10 win season.

2017 - dropped TD pass in season opener. Dropped TD pass in TCU game. Losing Will in UT game. All fluke plays which cost us at least a 10 win season.
1 10 win season in 8 years, fluke. I knew it, Shane knew it, he wasn't paying anymore for his nonsense, that's why he's gone.

I’m starting to feel comfortable with the fact that Shane did not make the big push to bring Nick Saban home.

I know he is a Freshman but every one of his interviews reminds me of this

You’re absolutely right.

Now we got us a G5 HC from the Sun Belt Conference to lead us to glory.

We’ll see how many 10 win seasons Coach Brown can get for us...

Saban and Meyers both were MAC coaches......HC experience matters.

The right guy can, but for every Swinney there is a fat Charlie. Hiring a guy with a success as HC is a leg up, they already know how to run the football team, and are not learning that at the same time as they are learning about the political and "CEO crap" that goes with a bigger job.

By the way Harbaugh started his HC career at San Diego University THEN got hired by the Tree people.
I don't think Muschamp should be held up as an example in this discussion, 7 wins a year, fired after four years in his first HC gig????????
Not sure which Kelly you are talking about, but Brian Kelly first HC gig was Grand Valley State, then Central Michigan, hey another MAC school, then Cinci before ND
IF you are talking Chip Kelly, yes he had success on the field in his first HC gig in Oregon, but bailed for the NFL when the NCAA started investigating and slapped them with three years of probation.
Fisher and Paterno were groomed and trained for the job by their mentors
Smart and Swinney are good example of your argument.

Their first HC experience was at a MAC school.

Are you comparing the status of WVU to Utah?

Mich St was on WVU's level back in the mid 90's when Brother Saban was hired there. He had what kind of success at MSU? One fluke 10 win season? And, he parlayed it into a great opportunity for him. Before his last year there, he was 3 games above .500.

Sadly... I think there are only 2 coaches one can cite as coming from such low places to the highest level...

Did you really say that????? WOW, read a little history. Bo Shembechler, Woody Hayes, Ara Parseghian, right on down the line.
Read this: Mid-American Conference football: Cradle of coaches and factory of upsets

HEY BB, THREE of the four coaches in the "playoff" got their start in the MAC as HC. Pretty lofty modern day. You claim to want to win titles, the way to do it reliably is to hire experience. Hell, Nehlen's first HC gig was at a MAC school and he had us on the doorstep in one of those fluke seasons.

DAD,

Not sure why you think I need a history lesson.

You seemed to miss the point. Why would a school of WVU’s status need to go down to a MAC level program to get its next HC?

Are we really no more prestigious as a football program as Utah when it played in the MWC? Are we on the same level as Minnesota who took Fleck? SU hadn’t finished ranked since 2001... had 3 or 4 winning records since that season. WVU on the same level as SU?

ISU had done exactly what before they brought Campbell in from Toledo?

Are schools like Minn, SU and ISU willing to gamble on a MAC level coach’s success? I’d say so.

Look... I’m hoping Neal Brown is a winner! I like what I hear and read about the guy.

But, this is a big jump. I thought you and others said WVU could attract quality big time coaches now. That’s why we didn’t have to accept Dana and his mediocrity.

We had zero P5 coaches interested in our open position. Weird...

We are NOT Ohio State, and never will be. There are very few schools who can grab a coach from an upper level school. ND, OSU, scUM, 'Bama are the cream of the crop and can hire who they want to, we are in the 2nd tier, we need to find the up and coming guy, and hope he stays a while. We are on the same level as Mich State, Iowa, teams like that, when is the last time one of them grabbed a coach from a top program? WVU is a tough job, hard to attract a great coach. We play in a league we do not belong in, we have to have a tireless recruiter, a guy who can assess and use the talent he can get, just like the other 2nd tier teams. There were several power5 schools who went after Brown, he turned them down and came here, that says something.
Explain to me exactly how it is beneath us to hire a successful HEAD coach from a "lesser" school, yet it is seen as great to hire a "power5" coordinator that has no idea how to be the HC and do all the "CEO crap"?

So... you’re admitting WVU is not on the same level as UofV, VT, GT, BU or Arky?

Kirby Smart would like to know why you feel he had no idea on how to be a HC. He questions your understanding of his preparedness to be the CEO. Seriously...
