Why doesn't Kareem get more love in the GOAT debate?

I have to wonder if on some level the longevity starts to work against him. If he retires in 82 or so he still has all the MVPs and 14 years of absolute domination would he actually rank higher? Less all time leader boards, but no time spent being anything but a top 5 player in the league.

Probably not, because Karl Malone remains overvalued and he ended his long career in a similar fashion.

It's weird though

Kareem is top 3 all fine in

Points
Rebounds
Blocks

He's got the most MVPs and the same amount of rings as MJ with more Finals

Like MJ is most peoples 1 but Kareems resume is just way way better overall

I think a lot of it is generational for sure though

those are longevity records though … all the great centers have to be compared one on one with Wilt Chamberlain … and he woulda broke Kareem in half … it took whole teams to beat Wilt …they rewrote the rulebook because of him for kryst sake

… and, in all due respect, Kareem nixed the greatest name in sports eva … so … there’s that

He had the most unstoppable weapon in league history, his skyhook.

I hated it. Now excuse me I gotta throw up since he's a legendary Laker.
Minnesota's Kyle Anderson unleashed that this postseason in a playoff game....LOL.

Lew Alcindor?

Brother, the greatest name in sports ever is Joe Montana. Sounds like a Hollywood name for a QB.

Dick Butkus is a close second.

Cassius Clay is good too.

Joe Montana is perfect...sounds like a stage name. Wouldn't work if he was a lineman or receiver, and wouldn't work if he was just an ok player. A QB named Joe Montana. GOAT name.

You’re joking right? How ‘bout Jim I mean Tom Brady?

… maybe you gotta point

6 MVPs isn't a longevity record

Nor are his 19 All Star games, 15 All NBA teams and 11 all defensive teams

Yes he also plated for a long time too though

He's basically if you took the best parts of MJs resume and James resume and combined them into 1 resume lol

You know what the biggest problem is with Kareem’s resume?

He wasn’t the best player on his own team for most of his championships.

So his 6 aren’t equal to MJ’s 6.

Or LeBron’s 4, for that matter.

Kareem is up there. Easy 3 for me.

But clearly behind MJ and LeBron.

You think? Im a Magic fan first and foremost but i think Kareem was easily they're best player in 80 and 82 for sure and there's a strong argument for 85 as well

80 for sure.

82 is debatable.

But not 85. Lakers were clearly Magic’s team by then. I know that was one of his Finals MVP seasons, but Magic was already playing at a league MVP level by then.

I consider Kareem the best basketball player of all time and am upset that the whining baby LeBron broke his scoring record.
