Thats all we Heard last year. Najee gonna fix our line n run game. He did neither. They just used him more to justify the pick.

Where did you hear that? Find a quote where someone said that.......

I'm just so confused by this. It doesn't matter who our QB is, if we can't protect him, he's gonna fucking suck.
Having a QB that is very good creating space & has great mobility will make a big difference… Plus when you watch KP’s tape it shows a QB that is very good throwing on the run.

Biggest concerns about him right now are the long ball, fumbling issues & skittishness… Everything else should translate pretty damn well to the NFL

Would you have been happier with Willis?

Oh i know. It was stupid then,
Stupid now.

I asked you last year who you would have taken instead and you had no answer......now Pickett is a better pick than Najee?

Honestly I believe we would've been able to get Ridder in the 2nd. Not saying that he's better than Pickett or Willis but we didn't need a QB in the 1st. We need someone to protect whoever the QB is and we are paying someone a lot of money to play QB for us so I don't think we needed a QB in the 1st. With who was left, I would've rather had Linderbaum, then depending on who is available, using a 2nd on a QB.

Honestly. Im not searching for it. Pompeani, and numerous guys on the fan talked that. Get the rb, then fix the line. The rb masks the line and bad qb play , per them. If elite. It was the dumbest argument. Then when najee couldnt find a hole, the same guys beat the drum that we didnt address the line.

Yeah, anyone in the trenches. At the time. There were a few guys that went shortly after on the i Line i would of rather had. Looking back, one of the two centers. IIRC i just wanted someone in the trenches, and felt a few were available. If i did not answer , my apologies, not trying to duck anything.

I also do like najee, just think it was a luxury pick when we didnt have that luxury. I hope the line gets better and he goes for 2k

This doesn’t really make sense but I’ll work with it.

Pickett is the only QB in this class worth a 1st Rd grade and I have no problem with the pick. I said it back in January that I hope they find a bridge guy AND draft a rookie. Doing this is a heavy price to pay for long term stability. I get it though, with other positions needing instant impact players & Pickett may not start so it’s a tough pill to swallow. But finding a capable solution at QB is the focus now, and I can’t fault them for wanting to cast a wide net to increase their chances.

I’m not knocking the Pickens or Leal picks either, simply because this team should never be doubted when it comes to its WR or DL picks. Their history at those positions simply offers tremendous promise. However I would have liked to see OL in the mix because C is still questionable right now. They should have someone emerge out of Cole, JCH & Green but who knows how reliable that will be. Maybe they focus on OL & DB now.

Just FYI they aren’t paying any of their QBs very much for the next couple years. $12m cap hit per year total for all 3 rostered right now. That’s half the cap hit most teams pay for 1 guy. 3 for half the price of 1. That doesn’t handicap them from exploring other QBs next offseason neither. Nothing about these contracts hinders them from keeping their options open from here on out

OL should've been the focus, not QB. QB was probably the 3rd need for us behind OL and WR. QB should not have been our 1st rd pick. IMO, signing a bridge guy and drafting a rookie doesn't make sense.

The ONLY argument against this pick is that Pickett isn't the guy or Trubisky is. There was no greater need than finding the next guy at the position. None, and it's not even close. Arguing that QB wasn't our greatest need is ignoring the current state of the NFL. You either have a franchise QB or you don't compete. Period.

At the time of the pick, I didn't see anything available that was of such great and obvious value that I felt they should pass on a QB "if" they felt there was a good chance he was the answer. The way the board fell it was tailor-made for them to take this chance if they really liked a guy. It's not like this was the number one overall pick or they traded up and used multiple picks to get him. There was no mortgaged future to throw this dart. I'll take that every day of the week and twice on Sunday (once for the lord).

Is it possible Trubisky was the answer? Yeah. But how often has a highly touted rookie come into the league and flamed out with his drafting team only to realize that potential with another team? His third team? It's almost unheard of. I do not like the chances that Trubisky is anything more than a bottom-half starter or excellent backup.

Worst case, that's what Pickett is. And if he is? So what. In four or five years we are talking about whether we need to move on or give him a second contract cause "he's pretty good just not great". And in the meantime, we get to enjoy a little hope. Root for a great kid that already means a lot to the city. Sign me up for a FUCK YEAH I'll take that.

And maybe, just maybe, he's the answer and we stumbled onto that rare NFL transaction of moving seamlessly from one great QB to another.

Well worth the risk at 20.

I disagree. O-Line was more important.

I obviously wish Pickett nothing but success and will root for him, but I just don't think we NEEDED a QB at 20. Y'all forget we went 8-6 and we were almost a playoff team with Mason Rudolph and Duck Hodges as the starting QBs, we would've been just fine with Trubisky as our starter, hence why I don't think we needed a QB in the 1st. Yes, the defense kept us in those games because the offense sucked, but the offense is better off with Trubisky as our QB in 2022 than our offense was in 2019 with Mason and Duck. I hope to be pleasantly surprised this season and proved wrong this season.

We didn’t forget. We just value QB higher right now. While I do hold OL to somewhat comparable value overall, they invested a lot of money in FA to patch up the OL so it isn’t as high of a need. No it isn’t perfect, but it should be more serviceable than it was the last couple seasons.

Trubisky would have likely played well enough this year, but are you really implying that they could win a Lombardi with him? Maybe they go 10-11 wins and find themselves in the postseason. Do you really believe he can lead this team to a win over the likes of Mahomes, Burrow, Herbert, etc? Based on what? A defense that annually fails to deliver in the postseason? A QB that vastly underachieved his entire career? I mean, kudos to you for being optimistic but that seems like a foolish thought to me.

Another point I think youre missing here… It’s that the Steelers are probably never going to be in a position to draft a franchise QB unless they mortgage their future by sending a bundle of top end draft picks. And there’s no guarantees in finding the guy. They are likely always going to finish AT WORST in the 15-18 range in the draft.

If they can somehow avoid giving up all that capital and still manage to draft a potential franchise caliber QB then we’re all for it. Every damn time. It’s pretty damn simple.

@Yo Tee Aren't you the guy who was talking about what a great pick Rudolph was? So your arguments consist of Rudolph being a great pick and Pickett a bad one.

I just want to be clear brother. If someone is going to challenge me for the worst evaluator ever I need to see it coming.

I'll take the unpopular side of not being a fan of QB at #20 nor do I view Pickett as an answer at QB. I would have preferred trading down if a position of need was not deemed worthy of that pick. Pickett had one great year in college and will be 24 when the season starts.

I expected the season to play out one of two ways. Trubisky plays well and they are a borderline playoff team or he doesn't and they have a much higher pick in a likely much deeper draft for QB's in 2023. Can he really be worse that Ben was last year? I believe overall this team is much deeper and improved in every area with the exception of losing Haden and maybe WR although Washington was rarely used, Shuster was hurt, and McCloud is easily replaced.

Now every interception will have the fans clamoring for Pickett. I expect Trubisky and Pickett to have similar careers so in my opinion we just spent a 1st round pick on what we already had.

Rudolph was also a wasted pick and I said so at the time. Many disagreed at the time but some fans have selective memories but hey he had a 1st round grade so its all good.
