It's days like this where I want Fed to retire. It's painful to watch him endure games like he played at 3-4 there. He's obviously still a great player and is capable of putting a run together, but there's just moments where the game isn't there. The years have caught up to him. Robredo's a good player, but there's no reason for him to ever break Fed at love.

There's no reason honestly for Robredo to even win a set against Fed.

Yeah. Fed is done. The only thing I could see him trying to maybe do is hit that slice backhand to bring people in like he used to do over and over again. All he's doing is trying to hit topspin backhands right now, and it's spectacularly weak.

Even if he did try throwing that short slice back in, I don't think it would help him much. Tough stuff to watch.

FED had a tough one against Simon at the FO, but I think Simon's speed makes him more dangerous, relative to Robredo.

How did Fed allow Tommy to save that hold?

In the first three service games for each, Fed took 11 points off Robredo and Tommy took one of Fed. And just like that, Fed is down a break. It's not about level of play as much as it is mentality. And as soon as Fed goes behind 0-30, it's done. People believe they can hold against Fed when Fed takes the first couple points. And Fed doesn't believe he can hold when the opponent takes the first couple points.

For 90% of Fed's career, it was the reverse.

Hoping Robredo can close it out here. A 4th set could get ugly

I'm fine with Fed just playing for love of the game.

Human slime who celebrate his losses are not tennis fans at all, so I guess what they say shouldn't bother rational humans. It's still hard to see their glee.

Anyway, it will be fun to see if Djokovic and Murray can keep Rafa from breaking Fed's record. I think Rafa will get it.

Wow, Kohlschrieber playing big off the ground. We'll see if he can keep it up for 2 or 3 more sets.

He's never played this well, so it would be pretty amazing if he could keep it up.

Fed was asked how when he loses, it looks like he doesn't care.

He says it's always been like that in his career. When he wins, it looks easy, and when he loses, it looks like he's not into it. He say he was asked that a lot early in his career. And fortunately, with the results he's now had, people know that that's not the case, that he does try when he's losing.

For whom? FED still would have been down 2-1 sets, so FED would still have to prove that he could play well enough to take a 2nd set. IMO. I don't think Robredo would have started playing poorly or getting tight. Sometimes that happens with some opponents, but I don't think it would have happened with Robredo.

It's completely true. When he was a kid and even a junior player, he would throw tissy fits right on court and break racquets.

His excellent coaches and parents got him to stop that, and when he did, he saw better results. We're just not used to seeing him lose so often over the past decade.

I agree with you, nuraman, but you're responding to somebody who clearly knows nothing about tennis.
