Fritz-9
Tiafoe-14
Paul-15
That is a really good ranking for Fritz. If he can stay around there for a while, it should help.

Good for Paul too.

Tiafoe needs to do a little better, because I think he can.

It's tough. He gave everything he had this tourney.

The Australian Open seems to have a lot of repeat runner ups.

Andy Murray - 5 runner ups.
Nadal - 4 runner ups (yes I know he won two titles, but that's a lot of runner ups)
Medvedev - 3 runner ups.
i know 2 of medvedev's occured when he had 2 sets to 0 leads.

Yea he is inconsistent unless it’s the open or hard courts here in the states

He is 1-5 is slam finals from what I read! Brings back Goran level of sadness and despair!
Lendel also lost a lot of US Opens, even though he won 3. He's lost 5 Finals.

Djokovic has lost 5 US Open Finals.

Federer has lost 4 French Open Finals.

Murray has lost 5 Australian Open Finals.

Ivanisevic has lost 3 Wimbledon Finals.

Am I missing anyone else? Male or Female, at any one major tourney Finals.

Yes. I thought he had a better chance to win today, then against Nadal.

He played worse when Nadal was making his comeback in 2022.

Among grandslam heartbreaks of recent memory (post Mac era), I’d rank,
1. Goran’s losses at Wimby finals or semis
2. Lendl’s losses to Becker on grass
3. Fed’s losses vs Nadal and Djoko ( especially the Wimby finals losses to both guys)
4. Medved’s losses
5. Agassi losses vs Sampras

Good list. I'd add Jim Courier's loss to Stefan Edberg in the 1991 USO Finals.

Fed's loss to Nadal at the 2011 FO Finals. He was up 5-2 in the first set and didn't win the set. That might have been his best showing against Nadal at Roland Garros.

Tsitsipas' loss to Djokovic at the 2021 FO Finals. He was up 2 sets to 0 and was playing very well.

I'm surprised he's only 25. Feels like he's been around longer. I guess he made his deep runs as a teenager, initially.

Venus losing to Serena at the 2017 Australian Open, and Venus also losing the Wimbledon Finals that year to Muguruza.

Jim Courier losing to Sampras at the 1993 Wimbledon. Sampras had not won Wimbledon yet, and that might have been Courier's best chance at that title.

I wish Borg had kept playing, so we could see if he could win a hardcourt major.

Did you mean call in sick?
I am taking a long vacation so keeping the call outs to a minimum as long as health permits. But I did think once about calling in. Got ESPN+ only in the second week and watched the pivotal djoko- sinner match and one other match. Alcaraz lost too early for my liking although I read that he reached the deepest stage at AO this year.

Oh Rafter’s loss vs Sampras at one final I think, was it Wimbledon? I can’t remember. Rafter was a good guy. Remember watching those matches and taping them on VHS. I had a box full of tennis tapes!

Rafter lost to Sampras in 4 sets at the 2000 Wimbledon, and 2001 US Open, again in 4 sets.

Rafter had two heartbreaking losses, one where he choked vs Sampras at 2000 (led by a set and 4-1 lead in the second) and I think in 2001 he played Goran and it went the distance and there were several rain delays and match got stretched to maybe two days? Can’t remember.
I gotta throw in one Henman Wimbledon loss in there I think.

Yes! How could I miss that one. In one of the finals he was in the driving seat but choked!
Other notable chokes were Guillermo Coria vs Gaston Gaudio at French open final where I think Gaudio clawed back from two sets down. And Novotna vs Graf st wimbledon final snd Hingis choking and tantrumming her way to the FO final loss vs Graf.

Had to go back and revisit the Goran Wimbledon win in 2001 in an article on the web. The final was played on Monday but the match that got stretched to two days was the semis between Goran and home favorite Tim Henman. Constant rain delays the first day. Goran won the championship being unseeded and only the second time it happened after Boris won in 1985.
