No doubt Baalke is tight with Jed, but at the same time if the season implodes someone is going to take the fall. I don't see Chip taking it. Then next one in line is Baalke. I don't think it would be improbable that Baalke would get the axe and Tom Gamble promoted. That is the one possibility I see happening.
I agree, Tomsula was his 1 get out of coach card. This time his is last chance to right the ship. As fans we just want to see improvement.

Norman reportedly wants a deal that pays $16 million a season. Quarterback Colin Kaepernick currently is the highest-paid 49ers player. His base salary is $11.9 million.

Read more here: 49ers have interest in Josh Norman, will proceed with caution

Wow, wouldn't $16M be the hughest paid CB? Believe the highest ones now make $14M/year?

Anyway, this same article says last year was his only "Pro Bowl" year. The previous three wasn't nearly as good.....previous THREE. There is no doubt he was helped by the other players on that Panther D. He is 29 years old already.

All these things combined, no wonder Baalke needs to be careful. i certainly wouldn't sign him above the other top NFL CB's.

So Norman played zone coverage somewhere between 75.9 and 81.6 percent of the time. Bad fit for SF.

The above is showing Norman is more a zone type CB. Posting this for information only, not adding any opinion.

Yea, Baalke is next in line and Jed isn't going to fire himself

Washington in the lead for Norman. Already have an offer on the table. 49ers in 2nd right now. Front office thinking really hard if they want to pull the trigger. If they can match Washington or come close Norman leaning towards 49ers.

Lets see what the front office does. my guess they pass. Thats what we do. We don't like to add talent.

Agree. Baalke needs to hit on this draft. As far as Norman, he is a good player, but played zone majority of the time. Add to the fact that Carolina had a great front seven, Norman benefited from that. I wouldn't pay him $16 mill per season. He's not better than Sherman or Peterson.

I hope it doesn't come to that, but I don't see the Niners being competitive next year. I hope I'm wrong, but when Gabbert is your projected starting QB and OL is in shambles, I'm not optimistic. I don't see a light at the end of the tunnel. Hell, we're not even near the tunnel.

I do to but I don't think paying Norman a king's ransom. It is Snyder's way to through huge chunks of money at random FA's and they haven't had much success at it. Norman's age and where this team is at the moment, don't see it as a good fit. If he was going to go at a reasonable price, he would have stayed in Carolina.

I agree to a point but the way the NFL is every team is 1 year away. It changes so much in the NFL with playoff teams. We sucked last year but who knows we might be in it this year or next so I dont want to pass on a Top Cb that we been looking for the last 8-10 years. Its just like that one year where we lost to the Giants and the next year we were 1 Cb away from going to the next level and we passed on Revis. With Revis the next year we win the super bowl.

i want to be optimistic with 'one year away', but clearly the unknown for us is QB?

Teams can be 'one year away' IF, they have a good QB. A good overall team might even get into the play-offs, but without a QB, it'll be a first round exit. Even with a decent QB, you can't really contend for the SB.

90% time yes. We have seen teams win with bad QBs before but I agree its a small sample size. We do have a winning playoff QB in Kap but will he gain that form again. Who knows. I think with a good Oline he will be fine. Track proves that. Now is his confidence that shot that he is finish maybe. Just imagine we draft Bucnker and sign Norman our D will be very solid. You can still work on Oline in the 2nd and 3rd rd.

Im just saying you never know. Dallas went from top team in the East to the worst team in the East. It happens all the time.

I would pretty much bet the farm we are not one year away. Not with all the holes and question marks on the roster. If we were going to eat up this cap money, we should have tried and signed one of the FA lineman. I would just assume carry over the cap money and use it on something more pressing next year

U might be right but It wouldnt shock me if we are in the playoffs this year or next because of how the NFL is.

well i took "one year away" as seriously contending for the SB, not just getting better. It is a given we'll get better, because there is only one way to go.

The questions is how much better, and as we ALL know, depends on the performance of the QB?
