It is never too early to dream.

I would love to upgrade the catcher position even with Raleigh up, but unfortunately there isn't any upgrades via free agency.

JP had a career year and I like the guy a lot, but this may be the best free agent SS class in history. Are we sure JP is the guy?

SS.jpg

Then we have 3B. Do we spend $20M for one year on Seager or go Kris Bryant route who is 4 years younger?

3B.jpg

As far as outfielders go, you know I don't wait on prospects to shine without filling the position with a vet. The only guy I see that works is Chris Taylor (see numbers above). He is the Mariners type playing multiple positions with some speed. I like the fact he is RH and can be moved around.

While I spend many hours on this subject over the offseason, I am fully aware that in the end the cheap ass bastards will sign cheap vets and minor league free agents only.

My Top 5:
1- Semien
2- Freeman
3- Bryant
4- Castellanos (I would move him up if he could still play some 3B)
5- Taylor
***A guy I would always take back is Nelson Cruz.

Pitchers to come...lucky you.

Pitching, pitching, pitching. Can we get a legit #1 for the first time since Felix? Here is what we are looking at and there aren't many #1's to choose from but a few quality arms are available.

SP.jpg

Bye Kikuchi. Anderson is a decent #5 that I could live with if we upgrade #1 and #2. I know we have several prospects almost ready to move up, but let me remind you of the tale of Sheffield and Dunn. It is talent and durability that matters and most our prospects still haven't pitched 100 innings in a season yet.

Scherzer is the best in the business, but at 37 or 38 is that the risk you want to take? Maybe. Gausman has been good but why leave SF? Ray and his extra tight uniform might be an option. Not sure of the contracts, but I would love Gausman and Ray vs Scherzer. Of course I know we will be looking at Pineda and Smyly.

Relief Pitchers: Roll the dice, but give me a LH stopper.

i like scherzer..going forward...cuz all the young rotation guys...need a guy like..him...so if it was a vote..i would vote for him...lol

..also why i like.. mike leake.. for bull pen guy..it is that experience.....they bring as well....for leake...i like him to teach ground ball.....induction...class to our minor league guy...lololol...sounds funny
but who better to teach a class..than one of the best in the buis...also..funny thing about teaching a class....it makes...that teacher even better ..as well

but i can not...convince...some people to teach..no matter ..what..so..there is that...(my brother...will not..even though..he should).ohh well..

yeah the the thing with scherzer..is he is at the end..which is ok for seattle.....who.knows..when..the ball..player is done.....moyer... pitched well into his 40s

"Scherzer is the best in the business, but at 37 or 38 is that the risk you want to take?"

the example..he sets...and just being there....yeah i would like some wins as well...of coarse....
but there will be guys coming from below...so...im not all that worried.....

if the mariners got scherzer.....then Justin Dunn 35 IL-60..would be coming..from tacoma...if they .......sign anderson...he is..a proto typical..5 or 6 guy

..like the mariners would have liked to put....Nick Margevicius 52 IL-60..in that spot...but now...i hope they are on..with taylor..cuz..nick is still having troubles...so..unfortunately....the mariners need to move on...so...i like to trade him( Nick Margevicius 52 IL-60)to arizona..but that is a diff story...
also in that story..is LJ. newsome...unless he comes from below
also..Darren McCaughan 22..cuz mariners are pushing up...from..the bottom...at the same time...they are...pushing down...from...the top......

the guys that will be traded...are the guys caught...in between.........

but could LJ..do what..i..have sloted..for leake..??....yeah..he could be long guy.....but he is still coming off ...tommy john...soo

Relief Pitchers: Roll the dice, but give me a LH stopper.....yeah i have not looked..so i do not know who..is avalable...but i will..lol

im ok with taylor....but in the end..........i decided..on trevor story...cuz..it is likely...........that the dodgers..re-sign taylor..and giants..gausman...
but ..how likely..is it that those guys want to stay...??..i don't know that one......

yes the position..would be share time..at..2B/ss...yeeess...and then...toro...share..time at 3B.........yeees...then...maybe story...at DH.....yeeess..that would be it..but things would be covered......

and then still trying for a trade...of .
Seth Beer 28 IL-10...need that LHH..1st/of...or Pavin Smith 26...yeah either one works...for seattle...and arizona needs pitching........

beer is..the cheaper...guy....

I want proven. No more projects or prospects for the MLB club. Prospects for the minors to develop is great, but we should be at the next level of the MLB level.

Zunino should be picked up by Tampa for $4M.

i agree on that...but if he is available..ya might have to consider.....

out field
Starling Marte (33)..seems to me ...to be my top choice....if lewis...is out...at all....but if not...i will stand ..........pat..........

ya have to do........do..diligence..which..is..ya have to check..in on guys like zunino...for example.......ya have to check..if lewis will be ready...
just ..going down the list,,doing .......do..diligence..lolol
but...yeah..lolol

my choice of.LlH..E-speci-al..Aaron Loup 32...and that would do it for..the bull pen

if not zunino...then...i think i would trade..for a catcher...if i ..needed to......mariners have enough..matirial..to maybe do 1-3..trades..not..big ones..maybe one bigger one..then 2 smaller ones...that..is ..maybe..

i think that ..covers it.....for me for the ..most part....

Kyle Seager (34) — $15MM club option (buyout size dependent on stats in 2020-21)...for me..i think there is little doubt..that the mariners will pick..up his option...even if they trade him at the deadline..which i do not think they will either...but...ya never.......know.......

with trades...a bull pen ..spot could come available..so..then..
Kendall Graveman (31)..........
Mychal Givens (32)

if no seager...
Eduardo Escobar (33).....3B.milwalkee

minor league guys..possible need.AA..outfielder.........or 2....outfielders..are moving fast up from modesto..but stalling at ..aqua sox...for now..

To put one mystery to rest Seager is gone. Seems like the writing has been on the wall since Mathers comments last winter. The HR numbers look good and all but I dont think his overall production will be difficult to replicate. I actually think that guy could already be on the roster in Toro. 3b is his natural position and he's put a little less then half the Fwar Seager has in about a 1/3 of the games.

Regarding Crawford and the available SSs, I think middle INF is where you need to throw some money at to really improve. Whether that be sign Semien and have him play 2nd or sign one of the SS and move them or Crawford over to 2nd.

The OF has a enough question marks with health or guys not ready that I wouldn't mind signing a 4th OF type. I think Blackmon fits the bill as a buy low bounce back candidate but even though the Rockies situation isnt ideal I dont see him turning down over $20 mil so he probably stays there. Some guys that maybe would work for me there are Chris Taylor (yeah I know), Conforto or Joc Pederson. The latter two havent had good years but again im more thinking of 4th OF option and also given we dont know what's up with Haniger.

SP needs someone at the top of the rotation. Sorry Dipoto/Stanton but its true. Maybe Gilbert gets there at the end of next year but you dont have that guy right now. Rodon is at the top of my wishlist but I also like Eduardo Rodriguez (ERA is bad, but other advanced stats are good). Also the pen needs a LH reliver in a bad way. Its really been lacking all year. I doubt they throw big money at a Robbie Ray or Gausman so ill do my best to think of a more cost effective up. I wouldnt mind 2 starters but given that I think we are stuck with Kikuchi one more year I doubt it happens

There are other things that need addressing like catcher but Ill be as realistic as I can.

C- Raleigh
1B- France
2B- Semien
SS- Crawford
3B- Toro
RF- Joc Pederson
CF- Lewis
LF- Kelenic
DH- Haniger

Bench- Murphy, Moore, Fraley

1. Rodon
2. Gilbert
3. Marco
4. Flexen
5. Dunn/Kikuchi/Sheffield

1. RHP Sewald
2. RHP Castillo
3. RHP Giles
4. RHP Munoz
5. LHP Chafin (I honestly dont know who I want, so kinda picked blindly here)
6. LHP Anthony M
7. RHP Steckenrider
8. RHP Ramirez

I think there will be trades and maybe thats the route we use to fill holes but tried my best to be realistic without spending a ton. I left Torrens out because I dont really see a fit going forward, especially if he's not catching anymore so hopefully he can moved in a package for something.

I would have to disagree with the point of his production not being difficult to replace. He is a 90+ RBI guy and those don't grow on trees. Could Semien replace him? In theory, yes but that only makes us a bit better compared to having Semien and a 90+ RBI guy. I like Toro, but would not put him in Seager's category at this time.

For me it is Semien or bust with the top SS's. I would move him to 2B as well. Not big on the others for various reasons. Would take Taylor as a starting infielder/outfielder.

Taylor because of his versatility and being RH. He fits our style with some speed as well. Joc is intriguing. He wouldn't break my heart.

No more rejects or bounce back types Mariners. Time to step up. Kikuchi probably is back on the player option, and if so, make him the LH stopper in the pen. If he doesn't want that, then tell him not to pick up his option.

I missed this part above. I actually like Torrens as a platoon bench player who can catch if needed, play 1B and 3B in a pinch. He has probably the only legit power bat from the right side off the bench.

This is what we would have to replace if we lost Seager:

He is 2nd amongst 3B since 2011 in RBI's

Seager RBI.jpg

And 6th amongst 3B since 2011 in WAR

Seager WAR.jpg

This will be a tough replacement.
