Or will it be...
Fultz
Redick
Butler
Simmons
Embiid?
Either way, they look pretty good.
Right now I'd actually go Simmons, Redick, Butler, Chandler, Embiid. Fultz is still rather lost.
This is a pretty good deal for Philly since both sides seem to expect a long term deal will be reached between them. A core of Simmons/Embiid/Butler should be really good going forward. In the short term, its gonna take some time to balance out their rotations. Saric and Covington had been very good for them. After losing Belinelli and Ilyasova in the offseason, their bench this year has been pretty bad. They don't really have anyone to replace Saric (obviously Butler easily fills Convington's spot and more). Amir Johnson is old and hasn't been very good for them. Wilson Chandler and Mike Muscala in theory should be good for them but both are just now coming back from injuries.
As for Minny, there's not much you can do in a situation like this. The player has all the leverage so your return isn't gonna be as high as you would like and the longer you wait, the worse it gets. I think some of those rumored deals from a month or so back were better (Houston, Miami, others). Even if some of those picks could be low teens or later, there's still value there and you can package picks together for something else. Picks just have lots of value. People love potential. But they do at least get good rotation players in Saric and Covington which will give them some depth in the short term. And with Butler gone, maybe KAT will play like an all-NBA guy again instead of being so fragile like we've seen this year when the two have shared the court. With KAT playing well and that added depth, the Wolves shouldn't be that much worse. They'll dip a little because Butler is really talented and versatile, but it shouldn't be drastic. If it is, that roster is fucked for years to come.
