ty cobb was the only player of these three that was considered the best of his generation...

so TC is the answer.... if we want to complicate this, and talk defense and base running, then Cobb is so much better than the other 2, that the other 2 should not even be honoured in the same poll...

Cal you need to move this thread to the MLB board (you accidentally put it in the Giants one)

He didn’t have the HRs of the other 2, but he had an era-appropriate amount of power. I agree that this SHOULD be his spot, though it won’t end up that way.

I could go either way but decided to pick Aaron because he played when the game was basically the modern version. Cobb was still in the weird era. I'll vote Cobb for the next spot and have no problem with either of them at 5

I vote Aaron, the era he played amassing the stats he had and longevity is a plus. Aaron is underrated and nothing to stain his vcareer like some others. Great Ambassador for the game, the game in it's purest form.

Nobody liked Cobb

He liked taking PEDs though. I voted for him at #5 anyway.

You can vote as you like, but a lot wrong with this post.

Aaron was the era-equivalent to Bonds, McGwire, Sosa, Palmeiro, etc. he didn’t break any rules, but to claim he was “pure” is simply inaccurate.

The whole “Cobb was a racist asshole” has been addressed numerous time in these threads…

The Chalmers Award was the MVP equivalent that was given out to a single player each year from ‘11 - ‘14. The precursor to the modern day MVP award did not exist until ‘22 (Cobb’s age 35 season). This explains his lack of strength in that category.

Seasons with at least 100 games

Cobb - 19
Aaron - 22
Gehrig - 14 (though he was the original “Ironman”)

All Star games (did not exist until ‘33 - after Cobb entirely, and Gehrig’s age 30 season)

Gehrig - 7 (including his final season where he only appeared in 8 games)
Aaron - 21 (plus 4 appearances when there were 2 games per season)
Cobb - 0 (as mentioned the concept didn’t exist during his career)

It looks like Aaron and Gehrig are actually pretty good comparisons. Both serious Ironmen, but a non-baseball ailment ended Gehrig’s career (interesting story, if you are not aware of it). Cobb was a completely different kind of player, but as Milk stated, he was the best in the game before a dude named Herman came along.

Because even non-Yankee baseball fans see his greatness.

Picayune, trampling on a legacy of a superstar for presenting clear cheaters as equivalents in either moral, ethics or laws.
Evidence in their enhancements clearly sets their maturity level of accomplishments apart from their introduction to the league.
Using tylenol equivalent substances that pose no threat to visual enhancements is surely lowering the bar of greatness in order to appease a popularity position.

he gets the legend treatment for sure... but its weird... he played most of his career in the same lineup as Ruth... so, he wasnt even the best player on the team....

And who would have been playing with Ruth? Gehrig deserves his fame and placement within the top 10 Yankees.
