Worth mentioning that actual #2 WAR7 is Hornsby, right?.
73.9

He has been getting my #3 vote in the general vote since we introduced it. If Bonds takes this down, I MAY start stumping for Hornsby…

Only one World Series title for the three finalists combined.

I have to go Cobb. Only real knock on him is power but, of course, it was a different game.

It is one of those things where even Cardinals fans often have Hornsby as the 2nd or 3rd best Cardinal because of era. You could definitely sell me on Hornsby at 5.

So if Bonds gets 40%, Aaron gets 35% and Cobb gets 25% Bonds doesn't win? Is there another runoff or something?
In that scenario, there would be a final runoff between Bonds and Aaron.

always amazed that he doesnt get the respect... and i just dont understand why...
From what I've read, Hornsby's defense was bad. And, other than Hal Chase, was probably the biggest horses ass to ever play the game

Giants fans have a similar issue with Ott and Mathewson. There is also the NY/SF split, but those two get lost in REALLY honoring the orgs history…

I could put Cobb, Honus and the Big Train in a hat and been happy with the one name I drew
IMHO, it is too early for a pitcher, but I can’t really defend that opinion. Really hard to compare pitchers and hitters.

I agree about the era. But it’s weird that Ty Cobb and babe Ruth break the era critique.

Ruth and Hornsby are the same generation. Actually that’s probably what hurts him. Because Ruth is Ruth.

Very true. No one knows what to do with 19th Century pitchers. Mathewson's numbers are impressive but he was a junkballer. Would modern hitters figure him out? Alexander's drinking would have driven him out of modern baseball much faster. The thing with Johnson is who he pitched for. What would his career numbers have looked like if he had pitched for the Giants or Cubs? 550 wins? More (he had double digit losses in all but five seasons).

Pitcher is tough. I'm actually looking through everything and right now the pitcher that checks the most boxes is Clayton Kershaw. So Im probably not voting for a pitcher for awhile.

If we were JUST looking at pitchers, I think I would probably have to go with Paige, Maddux, Seaver, and WJohnson as my preliminary short list. With my un-studied initial vote going to Paige.

Kershaw is a sure fire HOF. And all reports are that he is a genuinely good dude. But I am not certain he would make my pitching top 10, let alone be in consideration for #1. His playoff stink is quite pungent.

What is more important, a complete game with 3 ERs are a game with 2 HRs?

Pitchers just don’t make enough appearances to be in this discussion, imho.

And yet his ERA and WHIP and era are all strong when it comes to the playoffs.

I dont really expect an honest conversation about this between a Giants fan and a Cardinals fan, though. Like I said, Im not voting for him for awhile.

Kershaw actually gets/got a LOT of love on the Giants board here throughout his career.

Hell, I am a HUGE Lasorda fan. He played a GREAT heel, and was, end of the day, great for the game of baseball.
