I see Schmidt entering the convo in the 5 - 7 neighborhood. Right about the same area as Aaron and Henderson. I see 3 = Bonds, 4 = Williams, and 5 will be HARD (Robinson, Hornsby, Henderson, Aaron, Schmidt, etc getting consideration from me)

i like schmidt for similar reasons to why you like Mays... the offense/defense combo... now of course schmidt does not have the military nor being a black legend player...

But i also like how Schmidt is the best at his position, a non steroid user, and after expansion... Him and Bench and are the only 2 players that check that box

the clear cut best at their postition, post expansion, and are free of any cheating conspiracies... Pujols is the other possible player to check those boxes... but he has more competition at his position...

Im not sure I'd even consider him until around 12-15 range.
He is pretty much the hands down greatest 3B ever. And 3B is a premium defensive position.

I have no prob with him coming in after Henderson/Aaron/Gehrig/etc, but he should be in the discussion pretty soon, imho.

But not here.

thats kind of crazy IMO... unless you are one that thinks old time players pre color barrier are the only good players...

1B kills him for me. And he played during the roid age, so for me, EVERYONE is assumed “dirty”. Especially arguably the #2 hitter of the era, who was a complete nobody coming up through the minors. Anyone who just declares him “clean” is hypocritical, imho.

I'm going to say Musial should get consideration. I cannot remember if it was @MilkSpiller22 , @Wamu or someone else who argued for his inclusion as the best of his era but looking at Musial's career after that post has me thinking he deserves serious Top 5 consideration, starting with this place.

not me who said stan the man... although he is the man... but not one of my top 5s... probably not top 10... but only because i dont want to give all top 10 to pre color barrier players...

How can you have Clemente in there without having Al Kaline. The two players were so close it is a tossup between them.

Clemente 3000 hits 83 SB 240 HR .317/.359/.475 130 OPS+ 94.9 WAR
Kaline 3007 Hits 137 SB 399 HR .297/.376/.480 134 OPS+ 92.8 WAR

I know these two are around 20th all time, but I have always thought that Kaline gets shunned in these.

I'm a Red Sox fan, and I'm surprised the love Williams is getting for third all time... I'd have a few more players ahead of him... Also, he was well known for being a prick, similar to Bonds... not that it should matter... but whatever...

Bonds probably deserves this spot based on stats, but some will hold back for peds reasons...

it makes sense though if close that clemente would be higher... as he too broke the latin barrier... or at least is known to do that... anytime there is something extra, it always jumps a player over ones close to them...

I like Schmidt a lot. I have a large frame in my study of my favorite baseball cards I collected as a kid and I have a 1985 Topps Mike Schmidt up there.

It might be a weird pairing but I have him and Walter Johnson in the same kind of bucket. I just for sure pick him top 6 but maybe after that you can start selling me on some players.

Hank Aaron put up some pretty good numbers……
Yeah the thing about Aaron, like some other elite players is if you look at his WAR numbers by season, compared to some recent inductees, he basically did enough to get inducted into the hall of fame twice. Just consistent greatness for roughly 2 decades.

Not going to defend the bottom of the list guys on the poll, but keep mentioning him for inclusion when you think he belongs on the top 35 of available players (that allows for a LOT of debate, though, so REALLY, bring him up when/if this goes long enough to begin considering players like him).

I am trying to populate the bottom of the list with players who have been mentioned or who MAY actually have a chance for spawning debate. If you have noticed, the bottom 5 or so names have been changing each poll.

His WAR7 drops his ranking for me. He is pretty much the face of the accumulators.

I would say Aaron was consistently great but never an all time great. Like he has a lot of top 10s but rarely was the best in a season.

He is an all time great entirely because of longevity. But he would have been a HOF no matter what.
