Yes, I probably didn’t word it well, but I meant that a player who started his MLB career in the last 70 years. Bonds is it, so far.

And really players at their end of their career don’t really count as playing in those dates. As we voted for them mostly for what they did when they were good.

Seasons played for the pitchers that have been named in these threads:
Roger Clemens - 24
Greg Maddux - 23
Randy Johnson - 22
Cy Young - 22
Tom Seaver - 20
Grover Alexander - 20
Pedro Martinez - 18
Christy Matthewson - 17
Lefty Grove - 17
I guess specifically what I mean with Young is his WAR stat. He has a 17ish year prime.

So now the old man is pimping Tony Gwynn to me...I said dad he's terrific but not top 25-30 all time too many others...but he's maybe top 50

Really high BA for modern era, OPS+ career 132

Edit: eh not top 50 more like top 80-90?

That’s my point. I was being called out for being a Yankee homer because I was pushing Henderson.
Except my post was in response to an A-Rod post by you. I included Henderson in my list because he was also a Yankee for part of his career and you were promoting him as well.

and again, a homer pick is promoting someone that doesnt belong in the question... how is saying Arod is the best SS a homer comment?? ok, he played nearly half his career at 3B... so is your complaint that i called him a SS or that i think he is better than Honus Wagner??

It was unnecessary of me to bring up the homer accusation. It was a dumb thing to say. Whether its true or not true, it wasn't worth the comment on my part. I am sorry that I made it.

no i dont mind being called a homer... i am one... we all are...we all are going to have biases based on who we root for...

i just want to understand where my homerisms was... i dont think i have shown much in these threads... not saying its not there... but you screaming homer without support is where i am trying to get an understanding to...

I thought I saw it in the guys that you were bringing up throughout this process that others were saying it was too soon. Now one of them (Mantle) gained enough traction with others to get voted in. Another (ARod) hasn't yet gotten traction but others are starting to consider him. A third (Henderson) wasn't initially your push but you've gotten on that push pretty quickly. And I don't disagree that Rivera was the best closer of all time but you brought him up in discussions as an example of the best of something and it could be seen as a sneaky way to introduce another name to the discussions. That is where I'm picking up homeristic tendencies.

well, right now i think i have been clear that i am pushing Mike Schmidt or Clemens...

Henderson was my third pick... but thats more because i was comparing Morgan with Hornsby last round... saying that i am unsure whether Hornsby was better than Morgan...

And then i realized if i am going to push Morgan, i have to push Henderson first... as Morgan, who might not have been a lead off hitter... but on paper his skills mostly translate to lead off... and there Henderson was just soooo much better...

i might have gotten stuck on Henderson after that, because i was so high on morgan... but also said that i am unsure where to put Henderson because he is such a unicorn(his baserunning is just not measured well through WAR or OPS+)

I found one website that ranks Rickey in the top 20!.. 17th (ahead of Clemens and DiMaggio)

Most lists have him between 20 & 30 - which is probably where I would start to consider him.

From Sportsnaut:

Rickey Henderson might be one of the most underrated players in MLB history when it comes to discussion of the all-time greats. MLB is largely past its days of players stealing 70-plus bases, something Henderson did seven times in his career. He is the all-time leader in steals (1,406) and to put that number in perspective, he swiped more bags than Joe Morgan (689) and Kenny Lofton (622) combined. A 10-time All-Star selection and the all-time leader in runs scored (2,295) and lead-off home runs (81), no one is ever touching Henderson’s single-season or career records.

Rickey Henderson stats: 3,055 hits, 297 home runs, 2,190 walks, 2,295 runs, .820 OPS, 127 OPS+

Am I crazy or does almost every list overrate Griffey Jr?
