I had a sneaking suspicion (should have written this before sounds like Monday quarterbacking) that the changes to the trade deadline would dampen trading.

Agreed. Since it is the first year, no one quite knew what to expect. May see different action next year.
I would guess some tweaking before next year. Like a Aug 15th deadline

I don’t know anything about Dubon, but a power hitting 2B is exactly what they were looking for.

Pom was signed as a trade chip and Ray Glass is expendable.

From The Athletic in May (If you don't subscribe, you should.)

Behind Mauricio Dubon’s improbable and adventurous journey...

He had a great beginning to the 2018 season, but tore his ACL in a rundown. Came back in 9 months to begin this season. He was frustrated at not being called up to the Brewers. Evidently, Yellich has been a good mentor for him.

Highlights:

By 2015, Dubon began a swift ascent through the Red Sox organization. He finished the year hitting .288 with five home runs and 47 RBI in separate stints with Low-Class A Greenville and High-Class A Salem. He emerged as one of the organization’s best defensive infielders, with his athleticism catching the attention of his teammates and coaches.

In 2016, with Salem and Class AA Portland (Maine), Dubon blossomed into one of the Red Sox’s top prospects. He slashed .323/.379/.461 with six homers and 69 RBI. But with infielders Yoan Moncada and Xander Bogaerts ahead of him in the organization, Dubon’s long-term outlook was murky.

(Traded in December 2016 with Travis Shaw for Thornburg)

He thrived on the field. He quickly made friends inside the Class AA Biloxi and Class AAA Colorado Springs clubhouses in 2017, a season he slashed .274/.330/.382 with eight home runs and 57 RBI.

In 2018, when Dubon returned to Colorado Springs, he got off to a torrid start. He began the season on a 26-game hitting streak, slashing .343/.348/.574 with four home runs and 18 RBI. His call up to the big leagues, he believed, was coming soon. He was getting antsy. But then, on a May night in Oklahoma City, everything changed.

Dubon, now 24, has picked up where he left off in Class AAA San Antonio. He got walk-off hits in the first two games of the minor-league season. He roams the infield with no physical restrictions from his injury. His slash line – .273/.316/.403 with five home runs and 18 RBI – is on par with his previous seasons.

Read the rest on your own.

Having so many teams with a shot at a wild card didn't help. Barely any obvious sellers.

Dyson to the Twins.

According to Birch, prospects Prelander Berroa, Jaylin Davis and Kai-Wei Teng will head to the Giants in the deal.

Twins To Acquire Sam Dyson

Teng is a 20 y/o 6' 4" 260 lb rhp currently in the Midwest (A) League. 50 innings, 14 walks, 49 K's, 1.066 WHIP

Davis is a 25 y/o rightfielder in the Southern (AA) League. He is R/R. Slash is .274/.382/.458/.840

Berroa is a 19 y/o RHP in the rookie league. In the last several seasons, he has 91 IP, 88 H, 45 BB, 94 K, 1.462 WHIP

From the article:

None of the three prospects obtained by the Giants rank within the Twins’ top 30, according to MLB.com. Berroa, 19, is a starting pitcher out of the Dominican Republic who currently sports a 5.40 ERA across seven starts in rookie ball. Davis, a 25-year-old outfielder, earned a promotion to Triple-A in June and is hitting a robust .298/.392/.563 with 25 home runs on the season. Teng, 20, is a low-A starting pitcher with a 1.60 ERA over 50 2/3 innings this year.

There is one more trade, the Giants shipped minor league pitcher Jacob Lopez to the Rays for minor league outfielder Joe McCarthy. McCarthy was struggling big time in the IL but apparently has pop and patience. The Rays needed to trim guys off their 40 man and may have landed a decent pitching prospect. I could see this trade going either way (very good or very bad).

The Scooter Gennett traded, in light of all the other trades, puzzles me. Gennett hasn't shown anything since his activation this month by the Reds. His main calling card is power but didn't show much of it in Cincinnati this year. His 1 to 20 walk to strikeout ratio this year (in 69 plate appearances) looks troubling too. Maybe he just isn't 100 percent yet but how he helps the lineup is hard to understand. And if the one big area of strength has been stripped (three bullpen guys, plus one AAA insurance guy), why the need to pick up a veteran, possible has been infielder?
