MadBum just got us another top prospect with that performance last night. What a great/unexpected problem to have, being so hot and within striking range that we don’t even know if we should be sellers. I still think we should get what we can for smith and dyson though.

I'd be okay keeping Bum, but yeah they should sellout for Smith, Dyson, Watson if they get a good offer.

I think you can really only afford to deal one of those if you aren't just giving up

With the team hitting .500 tonight, I think the sell order has to be rescinded.

But does FZ now place a buy order instead? What does he buy? What can he use as trading chips?

Is there any possibility that one of the big 4 gets moved? How about Shaw or Canario or Adon or Duggar or Hjelle?

FZ will earn his salary in the next 2 weeks...

Boyd is certainly intriguing. HRs a big problem but this ballpark would help, great K numbers, team-friendly contract.

The price on him though....IDK. DET wanted Kyle Tucker from HOU for Boyd, so the price is going to be HIGH

Would it help though? He pitches in Detriot. We need offense, I sure hope we aren’t buyers for more mediocre left handed starting pitchers.

The team great right now and is certainly exciting. However, I'm still reticent about the team being buyers. I like the idea of one more playoffs to send Bochy off into the sunset but our farm system is just now getting better. Do we really want to mortgage the future gambling that two good weeks of baseball isn't a flash in the pan?
All that to say, I've been wrong many times before. I was wrong on Willamson. I was wrong on the team being ready at the start of the 2010 season. I realize that what seems like poor decision making is actually genious and try not to overreact if we become buyers.

Where you plugged in to the White Sox fan base at the time of the White Flag trade? If the Giants did something similar, how would the Giants fan base react?

I like Boyd as a strong No. 3 SP, but...I think SF should be sellers. Bum, Dyson, Will Smith, whoever teams call about. Build for that future

The White Sox got lambasted for that trade but didn't it really work out in their favor? Wilson Alvarez didn't have a decent season again, except for his 2003 season with the Dodgers. His half season with the Giants wasn't that good. Roberto Hernandez looked decent with the Giants (nice ERA, mediocre WHIP) and was selected to the 1999 All-Star game (a suspect choice) but he didn't really have another good season until 2005, when he was 40 years old. Danny Darwin was already past 40 years old at the time of the trade and was out of baseball after a disastrous 1 and a half seasons with the Giants.
Sure, Brian Manning, Ken Vining and Lorenzo Barcelo never panned out but Mike Caruso gave them one good season and Bob Howry and Keith Foulke had decent careers as mid to top tier relievers.

Consider their WAR:
Brian Manning - n/a
Ken Vining - -0.6 with WS, -0.6 total
Lorenzo Barcelo - 0.6 with WS, 0.6 total
Mike Caruso - 1.1 with WS, 0.8 total
Bob Howry - 6.1 with WS, 10.7 total
Keith Foulke - 14.4 with WS, 20.8 total

Danny Darwin - -1.1 with Giants, -1.1 total
Robert Hernandez - 1.1 with Giants, 7 total
Wilson Alvarez - 0.2 with Giants, 7.6 total

The White Sox got 21.6 WAR from their side of the trade, the Giants got 0.2 WAR
To look at it another way, the White Sox acquisitions amassed 32.3 WAR the rest of their careers, while the Giants acquisitions amassed 13.5 WAR the rest of their careers. Either way, I'd say the White Sox won that trade.

Bottom line, maybe we need (myself included) need to stop the knee jerk reactions. I'm still bummed that Matt Williams wasn't a career Giant but that trade sure worked out in our favor.

According to ESPN:
"As part of the trade announced Friday, San Francisco agreed to send Chicago $1,846,505 to cover all but $425,000 of the $2,271,505 remaining in Holland's $6.5 million salary this year. San Francisco also agreed to a conditional $500,000 payment if the Cubs decline Holland's $6.5 million option for 2020 and pay him a $500,000 buyout."

Sounds more like Holland and cash traded to the Cubs for ?
