No, he's not.

If I had to compare him to someone it would be either Vick or Vince Young.

Big Ben doesn't have speed, what's he got is durability (which Johnny may not have) and escapeablility. Johnny has that last one.

I don't think that he can play in this league for very long with his style. I don't think he can take the pounding like Ben Ben.

Moreover, he seems to me to be a loud mouthed shit that is all about JM.

He has no humility. Matt Lienart came in with that same 'Big man on campus" attitude and look where it got him. And didn't he win the Heismann trophy, too?

There's no way....no way...I hand this kid the keys to my offense.

IMHO he's not a first round pick, he's a 3rd round pick that someone is going to get suckered into using a #1 pick on. He should be viewed as a 'project' player, not a starter in his rookie year.

As for Big Ben....he was carried by an outstanding defense and ground game his first few seasons. If he had to rely on just him to make plays, he wouldn't have made it. Those things came in time - but he was mature enough to keep his mouth shut and not be arrogant. I don't know that JM will do the same. Whatever team is unlucky enough to get him, he's going to demand the offense be about him.

No, you are missing the point. He doesn't run to run, he ran bc he had to, to win. It has nothing to do with how fast he is. Vick or Young do not have the accuracy JF has shown. He is good at pulling plays out of his ass and finding a way out of the rush. Good at throwing on the run as well like Ben. Escapability, but still looking to pass, and I think he will do it more in the NFL and run less.

And Ben isn't that type of player to talk, he doesn't talk much. Like I said JF will mature and it could take some time.

As far as him being legit or a top pick, I wouldn't take him that high. I think he is a project player like you said.

I think they take Watkins at #4. Of course, they probably take Derek Carr :L

But I think if they wait they should take Mettenberger

I think that Watkins would be a good pick. He, Gordon, and Cameron would give the Browns a pretty nice group of receivers. Just need someone to get them the ball.

Yeah and that mule that lost the Kentucky Derby knew in his heart how good he wanted to be and was committed to winning, but in the end, he wasn't good enough.

Johnny needs to quit running his mouth.

Ever since the kid left A&M he's been telling people how great he was - yet he lacked the onions to throw at the combine.

The idea being that since he's not throwing to his receivers, his numbers would be low.

Well, DUH!

On the other hand, last I checked, whomever drafts him isn't going to get his receivers as a package deal. Whatever team is stupid enough to waste a pick on this guy is going to have receivers to whom he's never thrown the ball.

He looked great at his proday. SO WHAT?! You're supposed to look great at your proday.

He told the Texans that if they didn't draft him it was the biggest mistake they ever made.

This kid has bust written all over him and some chump team out there is going to waste a pick on him. I hope it's the Browns.

Johnny Manzeil, meet Troy Polamalu.

I couldn't fault any QB for gambling his future with throwing to guys that he doesn't know, unless of course it's significant for his stock. When they get to the NFL they're not going to throw to strangers, they're going to throw to the same group every week, so I dont see why throwing to just anyone is some kind of skillset.

Houston can accept being the colts (expletive) if they do that. Falcon fans have all the FA luck but God loves the saints.

Rothlisberger says he thinks that Bortles, who I think is much more comparable to Ben than is Manziel, is the best QB prospect in this draft. He doesn't dismiss the possibility that Manziel can become a good NFL QB, however.

Ben Roethlisberger would choose Blake Bortles over Johnny Manziel - CBSSports.com

Excerpt:
"But that's not to say Roethlisberger doesn't think Manziel can find professional success. He even said Manziel could be a star early in his career. What Roethlisberger worries about, though, is the long-term viability of allowing Manziel to make plays outside of the pocket.More from Roethlisberger:
“I was in the weight room the other day with Joey Porter, (and he was) asking me what I thought about Manziel. I looked at Joey and said, ‘Joey, do you think if you got a good hit on him, that he would be OK? And he said, ‘No, not at all.' And that's my question.
“You have guys like Joey Porter, who's a big guy, guys that are fast like Troy (Polamalu), Ike Taylor coming off the edge, Lawrence Timmons. You'd better be real athletic, get down or be big to absorb the pounding an NFL quarterback can take.
“I think he definitely has a lot of upside, but let's wait and see. The key I'll say every year when I get asked about RGIII (Robert Griffin III), Andrew Luck, or whoever it is, Cam Newton. It's not about your first year, it's about years two, three and four.
“Can you sustain it when defenses, like Coach (Dick) LeBeau and the defenses he coaches, when they figure you out, can you find a way to stay a step above them?""

And he's not alone in that concern. It's a big reason teams are shying away from him.

You can be skinny and play in this league - you just can't do it with that style of QBing.

Vick is very similar to Manzeil in build and style - and he's always injured. He's just not stout enough. What enables Big Ben to take the hits and keep going is that he's 250 pounds. He's got extra muscle on him. He's harder to pull down with one hand and when you drive him into the ground, he can take it. That's what has clubs worried.

The other is that he seemed to be afraid to show us who he is throwing the ball. He didn't throw at the combine, which makes it look like he was hiding something. He's not taking his receivers to the NFL with him and he didn't want to show us that.

He has the speed to compete at this level but not the durability. And him not throwing at the combine has me suspicious. What is it he didn't want them to see?

I just think he's more of a 3rd round pick. A guy you can develop into a starter over time, IF he listens to you.

And there's another problem with JM....will he listen to his QC, and OC or will he come in with a "BMOC" attitude like Leinart did in Arizona?

You need to be in love with your #1 pick and I don't know that anyone really is when it comes to JM. Your #1 also has to be ready to start right away and I don't think he is.

There are just to many question marks around the kid for me to burn a #1 on him.

Well, you have to admit there IS a difference - that's why he did it.

If you're starting in the NFL you have to build that chemistry so throwing at the combine is more like a real test.

Mayock just made the call on NFL network.

"And with the 16th pick in the 2014 NFL draft, the Dallas Cowboys select Johnny Manziel, QB, Texas A&M.

I've been a Cowboy fan since 1970. If this happens, I will be more disgusted with JJ than at any other time, except one. It would be his second dumbest decision of all time.
The dumbest decision was getting drunk and into a verbal fight with Jimmy Johnson sometime after the Cowboys won SB XXVIII. Cowboys could have won 5 straight SBs if Johnson had stayed the HC.

JF is 6'0" 207.

Dree Brees can take a hit like a champ he is 6'0" 209.

And Johnny will put on some weight. His size isn't as big of an issue as people are saying. The problem is will he try to run like he did in college. I believe he is smarter than that, he will run when he needs to. Size isn't an issue.

And the combine doesn't mean shit. We have seen players have shitty combines and play good and we have seen the opposite of that. It is so overrated.

No, it's not. You have the opportunity to build chemistry before it matters in a real game, by getting to know your receivers in rookie camp, mini camp, training camp and practice.

I just dont see the big deal. Lots of guys choose not to do it, and rightfully so most of the time.

Well, I'll guarantee one thing.......

If Cleveland drafts JF, he'll be one of the biggest busts ever........... and if they pass on him, and WHOEVER drafts him after cleveland passes, he'll be another Payton Manning or Tom Brady........

Its called the cleveland curse........
