Amare Stoudemire stands out. Before he fell apart in New York, he was seriously courted by the Cavs, but shied away from the deal because LeBron wouldn't commit to the city. Stoudemire didn't want to be stuck in Cleveland with no guarantees that LeBron wouldn't bolt.

I'm sure Stoudemire wasn't the only player who felt that way.

You can't tell me that in this era of the NBA that LeBron's non-commital attitude didn't cost the Cavs then and the Heat now...

Now if they lose Bosh to Houston, Miami might as well run up the white flag.

I agree... It is frustrating... I think if Lebron, Carmelo both decide sooner atleast it will help pretty much every team in.the nba to decide what they can do next and move on... Some guys are being on hold just cause these two haven't decided yet

I'd say giving the organization 4 years, 4 championship series and 2 championships is commitment enough.
The Heat aren't out of it, but LeBron is now looking for max $$, having compromised on that by going to Miami in the first place.

I don't fault LeBron. He has to put food on his family.
Ha!

I agree. But I got a laugh out of that last line. I'm pretty sure that if LeBron doesn't sign a max contract, his family isn't going be showing up at the local food bank trying to get government cheese.

That can't be right, LeBron fans have been telling us for years about how LeBron is the greatest teammate of all time and only cares about winning.

I'm just saying, look at the sweetheart deals they got from Ray Allen and Shane Battier when they knew he was there for four years...

Who have they signed since?

Thank you! I've been saying this for years. I used to argue with Cavs fans about this. I told them to don't just blame management, blame LeBron too, for not having big FA's sign with them. I always used the Stoudemire example you just used.

I've got to say I'm sick and tired of this new attitude that the players are responsible for attracting free agents and surrounding themselves with talent.

What exactly is the purpose of a GM?

You can't have it both ways. There are stories about the big 3 hatching plans at the 2008 Olympics to play together. If that's true, then you can't honestly say that players play no role in recruiting help to their team.

and what about LeBron's first 7 years in cleveland? LeBron gave cleveland plenty of chances and the most help he ever got was Mo Williams

How about all of the horrible signings they made when he contractually obligated to still be there?

As many times as the Cavs screwed it up, why would any big time FA agree to a trade to the Cavs a few months before James could leave?

Of course they have an influence and an impact because they are the ones making the actual decisions of where to play.

But the responsibility to build a roster that can contend, within the cap rules, is the responsibility of the GM. And the blame should be largely theirs when they fail to do so.

The owners are starting this trend of blaming the players for literally everything and taking responsibility for nothing. Why are so many fans falling for it?

No one said the players are responsible, but if fans want to put the blame on management, then they need to understand that its hard for management to bring in top FA's when their own player is not committed.

Yes the Cavs wanted to trade for Amare but he had no say in the deal. He didn't have a no-trade-clause. At the end of that season, Amare opted out of the final year of his contract with the Suns and signed with NY in July of 2010.

Even had he been traded to the Cavs, history shows they had about a 1% chance of him signing long term that summer.

So how exactly how is LeBron to blame that Amare shied away from being traded to the Cavs when he had no control whatsoever over whether he got traded or not??

Could it be maybe.....just maybe..... that PHX is to blame because they decided not to pull the trigger on the trade?
