Of course they have an influence and an impact because they are the ones making the actual decisions of where to play.

But the responsibility to build a roster that can contend, within the cap rules, is the responsibility of the GM. And the blame should be largely theirs when they fail to do so.

The owners are starting this trend of blaming the players for literally everything and taking responsibility for nothing. Why are so many fans falling for it?

I don't think its been clear enough on this thread. No one said the GM's don't deserve the blame. In fact, I believe they deserve most of it, but lets not act like Lebron being undecided in Cleveland and this year, has no effect on rather or not other FA's want to sign there.

Yes the Cavs wanted to trade for Amare but he had no say in the deal. He didn't have a no-trade-clause. At the end of that season, Amare opted out of the final year of his contract with the Suns and signed with NY in July of 2010.

Even had he been traded to the Cavs, history shows they had about a 1% chance of him signing long term that summer.

So how exactly how is LeBron to blame that Amare shied away from being traded to the Cavs when he had no control whatsoever over whether he got traded or not??

Could it be maybe.....just maybe..... that PHX is to blame because they decided not to pull the trigger on the trade?

So what if he didn't have a "no trade clause," if he wasn't committed to signing a long term deal with the Cavs, the the Cavs were not going to pull that trigger. If Lebron was committed to the, maybe he would've agreed with the trad.

I know you like Lebron, but lets not act like it wasnt possible that Lebron being undecided, had anything to do with Amare signing there.

But if he's UNDECIDED, then there isn't much he can do about it, correct?

These FA have all earned to be just that by fulfilling their contracts.

As fans, and I'm sure as GM's, sure, everyone would like instant gratification...but often these decisions involve so many others besides just themselves.
They need to consider their wife, their kids , where they are living and on and on....
Often that takes time.

Once again.....AMARE HAD NO SAY IN THE TRADE!!! Suns could have moved him IF THEY WANTED TO! The ball was in the Suns court, not Cleveland's. At the end of the day......THE SUNS DECIDED NOT TO MOVE HIM!!

How is it James fault that the Suns didn't trade Amare???????????

Maybe im not making myself clear enough as I thought.

Look, in no way shape or form, im bashing Lebron for being undecided. He has every right to weigh his options. All im sayimg is, if fans want to blame someone for not bringing in talent, then dont put it all on the GMs. Although, they deserve most of the blame.

Once again, LeBron's lack of commitment to his current franchise is hurting that team's ability to round out a championship roster around him.

Look, four years ago, LeBron made his "Decision" and everything else, and many point to the Cavs inability to surround him with a capable supporting cast as one of the main reasons why he left Cleveland. I contended then, that his lack of commitment to the Cavs leading up to his impending free agency impeded the Cavs chances of recruiting a quality Robin to his Batman.

Instead, the Cavs were forced to rely on an aging Shaq, Antawn Jamison, and Mo Williams as the key pieces around LeBron.

This year, LeBron is leaving the Heat in the lurch by taking his sweet time exploring free agency before making a decision.

The Heat have already missed out on making serious runs at key supporting castmates such as Kyle Lowry and Marcin Gortat because they are unsure of their cap status and the ability to bring back the "Big 3". Now they are reduced to relying on the additions of Danny Granger and Josh McRoberts to push them over the championship hump.

Again, LeBron is well within his rights to explore free agency, I'm not saying that, but when LeBron eventually moves to greener pastures, be it this year or two/three years down the line, don't explicitly lay the blame for building a championship roster fall at Pat Riley's feet. LeBron is just as culpable for the Cavs and now the Heat's inability to draw the necessary supporting cast.
He doesn't have a current franchise.

Dude, I know you are smarter than this. There are 3 parts to a trade, when trying to trade an expiring contract player. The two teams have to agree of course, but what the team, in this case the Cavs, want to know is if Amare will sign an extension with them. If Amare don't agree to an extension, then the Cavs will be to scare to take a chance. Does Dwight and the Lakers situation ring a bell?

I explained already why Lebron should have some blame too.

Cavs fans getting prepared for Big Letdown Part II.

Will they have to buy Heat jerseys to burn this time, or just clothes off their backs?

That's why I'm still expecting Lebron to Heat once he talks to Riley.
