Tom Brady is also the only example of this. Also Tom Brady’s cap hit in 2020 was only a little more then 2.5 mil less then Wilsons and the Bucs still managed to put a super talented team around Brady.
Buc had the advantage of having a long run of early draft picks prior to Brady signing with the Bucs, which gave them both talented players through the draft and cap room. The perfect storm for Brady IMO.

Also to add onto my point last off-season the Seahawks had like what close to 50 mil in cap? How’d they spend that? Pretty poorly imo. Also even if you aren’t picking top tier in every draft there are still good players to be selected later on. Seahawks have not been very good at that.

Seahawks had 50 million because of a slew of expiring one year contracts which left a lot of openings to fill at a time when salaries are sky rocketing even for mediocre players. In reality 50 million was a meager budget to fill the holes and actual try to improve.

My point is, Russell’s contract isn’t what is holding this team back, poor drafting and poor FA signings is.

Poor drafts and cheap free agents go hand in hand with poor draft positions and tight caps that playoff caliber teams end up with. Which is why teams like the Falcons made it to the SB then crashed, Eagles made it to the SB and are now shit, Panthers made it to the SB and went to hell, Broncos won the SB and now are also ran. The Seahawks have actual stayed competitive and a playoff team for the most part and still are and that means they had to do more right decisions then wrong decisions. Fans want their team in the SB every year and complain when that doesn't happen and disregard that the team has performed above average despite the handicaps given to successful teams by the league.

Yes and a large portion of that is because we are getting some of the best QB play in the league. A lot of people like to say Russell’s contract is what is holding this team back, when in large part the reason why this team has stayed so competitive is because of RW

It's a perfect storm of all 3. Bad drafting, some bad signings and a large contract which he has lived up to but it does take a chunk out of the cap.

My point is the Seahawks have been really bad at adding talent to the team and Russell Wilson’s contract isn’t the reason why.
Not the sole reason but certainly a part. Especially if they keep forking out top $
and picks for players like Adams.

Russ certainly deserves to be paid but don't cry about other guys not getting paid unless you're wiling to give up some of your $. It's not like Seattle is ever millions under the cap.

This was going to be my next point. Seattle has struggled finding top FAs. They've swung and missed on a handful lately.

But hey BB can't find a WR unless they are an UDFA or a 7th rounder from some other team.

Great minds think alike. Yet his contract combined with others is a big reason. Those extra couple mil here and there are sometimes what separates getting a quality 2nd tier or two player.

Yea but even if they did have an extra few mil to get those guys, they’ve shown of recent they aren’t good at getting the right guy. Besides like Shell?

A nice restructure would be great but for whatever reason Russ won't do it.

Problem is the FO picks guys they think can fit the system instead of getting the better player and letting him learn the system. If that makes any sense.

It’s part of the reason, not the only reason but definitely part of it … If Russ would take a paycut we could add more depth… Brady did that for years in New England and it definitely helped Keep them more competitive… Obviously you still need to make the right personal decisions overall or it won’t matter, but clearly Belichick did pretty well…

Seahawks struck gold on their draft picks for years. Caroll was a genius!
Now they have missed on a few picks and Caroll is an idiot!

Even for good coaches, draft picks tend to even out.

I think Brady is the exception (of very talented QBs).... and reason he easily owns the most rings.
