Just my 2 cents here, what nobody has mentioned here is you can clearly hear the ref warning Pronger while his hand is up. "Heyheyheyheyhey." Once the puck goes in he makes the call obviously. He was going to let him get away with it until the puck went in, so i believe it was a good call. Had the puck not gone in, i'm sure after the next whistle the ref would have talked to Pronger and told him what he did was borderline questionable.

Slashing at someone's legs IS a penalty though. In fact some players around the league have had fines and/or suspensions levied against them for doing so, but that's not what we're talking about here, so excuse me.

Maybe when a player quick stops in front of a goalie and ice shavings go into his eyes we should call a penalty for that.

Hey....they should call a penalty against any player that's screening the goalie that's as tall as or taller than the goalie.

or

I got it....maybe they should penalize any player who has manufacturer labels on their sticks that are too shiny.

or, they should have to blacken the reflective side of their blades because they may cause the goalie to lose sight.

or wait....wait....wait...maybe they should change/lower the output strength on the bulbs they use in the ceiling lights because they may be just a tad too strong and the goalies eyes could become blurred.

Pronger didn't intentionally interfere, so it couldn't be a penalty because....well, it wasn't.

The merit of any call is up for debate. But there seemed to be some confusion about 'the Avery rule', and I'm just trying to shed some light.

Your other examples were a little... silly. Although I don't see why a ref couldn't call an unsportsmanlike for snowing the goalie if they thought it was excessive or unecessary.

From my point of view.....the ref's "heyheyhey" was directed at Kippers slashing, not Pronger's quarterbacking of the play.

No, you were right, and that was a great catch. Ref was definitely trying to tell warn Pronger, and watching the video again makes it super obvious what Pronger was trying to do.

that hey hey hey was definitely before the slash

I stand corrected. I am wrong on the "heyheyhey". The ref wasn't yelling at the slash.

He was definitely barking at somebody (possibly Pronger) besides Kipper.

All good points from both camps aside, my beef is with the call not being made until the goal was scored. It sure appeared that if there had been no goal on the play, it never would have been called. THAT is wrong.

I guess this leaves open the possibility of an incidental interference call, where the goal is waived off, but no penalty. I could have lived with that.

Was it Koharsky?
Then I'm sure it wasn't directed at Pronger, just pure coincidence on the timing being at that exact moment.

Probably saw a donut vendor in the stands and was trying to get his attention.

We have a difference in opinion of the greatness of Chris Pronger. For me he's been good in the playoffs, has had a few really good years, takes a lot of cheap shots, and is a journeyman defenseman.

The weight I put behind his post-lockout playoff resume has nothing to do with:

1. This
2. My appreciation of his overall douchebaggery

Snide comments based upon a discussion (from when, July? And in a different forum?) have no place in our little paradise, good sir. I love a lot of players. Good ones, bad ones, terrible ones (Kip Miller). I just don't see what good you thought could come from making that passive-aggressive comment.
