100%. 3 MVPs and 4 second place finishes for
MVP. Thats about as elite as one can ever be. I hope he has a few good years left in the tank because he really should be a slam dunk for greatest player of this era.
No doubt the best player of the 2010s decade.

GOAT of his era is likely between Trout, Ohtani, Judge, Miggy, and Betts.

Of those 5, I think Ohtani will hold the crown, pretty decisively, when all is said and done. But the #2 slot will likely be Trout.

Is it really unanimous that everyone prefers Rickey Henderson to Trout? Because I’m not buying it.

Note: This is NOT me stumping for Trout at this stage of the rankings.
Trout occasionally does show up this high on lists.

I personally think some of the top pitchers should go before Trout. Johnson, Maddux, and Pedro. I'd have Clemens ahead of him, too, if we're ignoring the *

The other 3 members of the 700 HR Club came off the board long ago. Only Pujols remains. His time should be coming in the next 4-5 guys, maybe?
That's true, but if people want to call Hank Aaron an accumulator.....shit Pujols's last 200 homeruns he was in pure accumulation mode. (Not taking anything away from him for that though-if someone is paying you to do what you love you should continue to do it as long as possible)

This comment got me looking at Trout. He led the league in WAR 5 times in a row...I wonder how many others have done that. I looked at Ruth who did it 6 times in a row (and 5 more times besides). I wonder how many others have done that...
That sounds like a trivia question assignment....

Bonds lead the league 4 years in a row TWICE. And had another stretch of 3 in 4.

Technically he does not qualify for your 5-in-a-row, but I doubt anyone can claim multiple distinct 4-year stretches.

For me, yes. We are almost in the trout consideration neighborhood, I think, but he is RIGHT NOW still a notch or so below Rickey.

If he is able to add a season or two to his WAR7, than maybe he can jump Rickey. But right now, he just doesn’t have the resume.
I can’t get past the career OPS+ of 173 for Trout v. Rickey’s 127.

honestly, i see Judge to have a better chance to reach the top 10 than Trout does... amazing that they are basically the same age... feels like Trout is like 60 or something...

OPS+ is worthless outside of seasonal buckets, imho. And you comparing the two using Trouts argument, not Rickey’s. Rickey is not trying to get on this list primarily due to his bat. Meanwhile that is 95% of Trout’s argument.

That's true but you have to realize some of his average numbers like OPS+ took a hit because he chose to keep playing well past his prime. I try not to hold it against a player for like Henderson or even Pete Rose for playing when they are no longer an impact player just because they love the game. To make a good comparison you'd have to either wait til Trout's career is over or cut off Henderson at about age 33 or something. Granted, Trout would still have a higher OPS+ but it would be closer.

I have more faith in Trout making a comeback than I do in Judge maintaining his dominance.

Yeah Trout's numbers the last few years are not fine if he could just stay on the field. 2 years ago 40 Bombs in 499 Plate Appearances is pretty impressive.

I'm not sure I see that but I am seeing Sandy Koufax is getting votes right now and there is a good argument that Judge is in the same tier as Koufax

I cant see myself ever voting for Koufax. Not at the area where most others would rank him. He is essentially Timmeh or King (maybe Sosa is a better comparison). Granted, his peak was longer then theirs and I certainly rank him MUCH higher than both of them, but I see them all as the same general player.

right now, trout is of course above Judge... by a fair amount too...

But Judge is inside his prime, where 2022 and 2024 were 2 of the best seasons of all time... and better than any of Trouts best seasons...

yes, trout needs much less to be considered a top 10 than Judge does, but judge is much more likely to improve his peak than trout is...

that is not fair at all... he had a 5 season run that was consecutive, with total dominance in the post season as well...

he is basically a combination of Degrom with a longer peak and Madbum...

Very rare for giants to improve with age. And typically, they fall off cliffs.

I am not certain I can disagree with you more on this one.

but it was rare for giants like him to bat so well in the first place... he already is an outlier, so hard to find a good sample size for him....

and until he shows slowing down, its not fair to say he will soon... he started his career late.... so he is not burnt out... and there is a position available for him once he slows defensively...

Just because he wasn’t in the majors doesn’t mean he wasn’t in the minors. And I would argue that minor league years are harder on the body than MLB years.

I just looked it up. He got to the bigs in his age 24 season. Not really a “late bloomer”.
