I also think there's still a decent chance that one of the Pens, Isles, Wings or Bruins completely chokes down the stretch and hands it to us.

At the end of the day, this just seems like it will come down to the four remaining games against the Pens, Isles and Wings. I hope we have a cushion before then, but we've also played well in big games as of late. Two wins over Tampa in a week, plus wins over Detroit, NYI, Colorado, Minnesota and Chicago. These should all be desperate teams.

We need to win the next three games. None of these teams have anything to play for and none of them are playing particularly well at the moment either. Yes, this includes Washington. They have everything locked up.

We should be more desperate than all three of them, plus we're at home for all three games. I expect three wins.

Playing desperate is what we need because we certainly didn't do that in Arizona until it was 2-0 theirs.

Stat of the Day:

The Central division is widely considered the best in hockey. Although our division is also strong, it's difficult to dispute the original argument.

We've finished 11-3 this season against the Central. The best point percentage record in the entire Nhl against that division.

It's really just another stat that shows we generally rise to the occasion against the best teams.

this is what bugs my ass.
These guys have proved they can get up for the good teams, and struggle with the shitty ones.

IMO we should have at least an additional 15-20 pts right now, from all the games they blew, and not be in a fight to make the playoffs.

68.2 today. A win last night would've had them around 80-85.

70.9% this morning.

Let's go Montreal, Carolina, and New Jersey tonight!

Buffalo too, for what it's worth. Catching Pittsburgh doesn't look likely at this stage, but if we could somehow beat them twice in regulation, it's very possible.

I'd love to get within two of the Isles though and beat them in the finale to steal their spot.

Basically, we really don't want to have to play a rested Capitals team in round one. Whoever wins the Atlantic will not be rested and we'd have as good a shot as any against them. They actually wouldn't be much further ahead of us in the standings either. Right now it's just six points.

I think Detroit is in a massive pressure cooker right now. 24 years straight of playoffs and this is what is on their plate:

They need to win in Montreal tonight where they have lost four straight, including a 4-1 loss earlier this season.

Then, they play an equally desperate Minnesota team that has won five straight.

Toronto, who shut them out 1-0 last time out, is next.

Then us. We've beaten them both times this season. This will be the second biggest game of their season.

One night later, they have to play at Boston in what I would call their most important game of all. Boston has also beaten them twice already.

They close the season against the Rangers, who may still be playing for home ice in round one.

Since Ghost came up and Schenn, Couts and our 4th line learned the system we have been beating all teams not just good ones. I wish we could've had those early points vs. scrub teams but at least we are playing good now. Oh and it didn't hurt getting Cousins in the line up instead of Umberger.

Just want to add to this the Islanders are out there to be passed also. Starting with Carolina tonight Lets go Canes!

It's true. We're 11-3-2 since February 23rd when we lost a game in Raleigh that we had absolutely no business losing. Just no luck whatsoever. So, we've essentially made our own luck from that moment on. You can't perform much better than we have over the last five weeks. We won 69% of our games and got points in over 81%.

I don't want to jinx this, but we could be getting some help tonight. The Pens are down by three to Buffalo and the Wings are down by two early at Montreal. Mrazek just got the hook. Hell, even the Bruins are down by one to NJ.

Panic time in Detroit and Boston.

Boston loses in regulation to NJ and Detroit is trailing late against Montreal. Both Pittsburgh and the NYI both barely escaped with shootout wins, despite trailing for much of the game.

I really like our chances here if Detroit does go down in regulation in addition to Boston.
