The next game is huge. Beat the Islanders in regulation and we're right back in the middle of the playoff hunt. Then, the Preds are struggling to score right now even more than we are. These are winnable games in my opinion.

I stand by my previous statement. That was a winnable game last night, but we need to have our energy for more than just a period and Mase really has to stop that shot by Okposo. Pretty disgusted that we didn't at least take the game to OT. The power play should've scored twice. More points choked away because we were all butthurt about the late goal against in the first.

The special teams play is really getting to where we need it right now.

Over the last five games:

4 for 17 on the power play (24%)

16 for 16 on the penalty kill (100%)

All of those goals have come in just the last three games. I would sure as hell love to start winning these games in regulation though. We're leading the league in overtime games played...

I had a strong night against FFF with 70.6 points only to watch his team put up 82.9 points on the same night. He got 76.7 points from just 14 skaters and every single one of them had at least a goal or an assist. That's absurd!!

However, Giroux led his team with 36.8 points for the week. I'll gladly take the loss and enjoy that.

These are some of the highest numbers I've seen to date by the way.

H. Sedin had 39 against me last week (including 16.2 in one night), which is tops so far this season, so I am a bit cursed right now.

Hope everyone had a happy and safe holiday. As bad as this team has played (dead last with 1.83 goals per game) we are only 4 points from the last playoff spot. The season goal tally and projections for a select few are:

G - 8-27
S. Schenn - 6-22
Simmonds - 5-17
Read - 3-10
Couts - 2-8
Jake -1-3
Raffl -1-3

I will go out on a limb and state that these numbers will pick up. They have to. All is not lost. They just need to start clicking and finding some chemistry.

Everyone aside from maybe G and Schenn should score a lot more goals than they are currently on pace for. G is starting to catch fire though. Even he may improve on 27. I do expect him to get up over a point per game.

Our defense and special teams are slowly starting to creep up into the top half of the league. It doesn't hurt that both of our goalies appear to be locked in as well.

It's hard to see right now, but regulation wins against division rivals such as on Saturday really give us a boost in the standings. It may be tempting to look past Ottawa at three more big division games, but we really need to keep this rolling one game at a time as they say. I'm just waiting for the offense to explode and score 5-6 goals one night. We are way overdue for it.

Well, we just beat three current playoff teams in a row, including two of them on the road. Another huge game on Friday with NJ playing the second game of a back to back. If they somehow lose to Carolina, we could then pass them in the standings. Regardless, it's a game we want to win in regulation.

I just hope this is not the usual tease, win three or four games vs. good teams go back to playing like crap vs. everyone else.
