There is one thing to keep in mind when reading the reports of these people and organizations who are doing these mocks and draft reports. Last year after the draft Keith Law did what amounts to a report card on the teams and how they drafted. When it came to the Rangers 4th round pick, Ian Moller, Keith Law said he couldn't find a scout who thought Moller could hit. Thus far, Ian Moller has a career batting average of .171 and he is hitting .146 this year.

These guys aren't simply guessing. Are the scouts and industry insiders they talk to always right? Of course not. They are not just throwing darts either.

Well who do you follow?
I have spent the last several months posting about who I follow. Those guys listed above, Prospects Live, Just Baseball, Baseball Prospect Journal, Through the Fence Baseball, and some others.

I would trade the Rangers second, third and fourth round picks from last year for a Competitive Balance pick. Hopefully the Rangers would take a better player than any of them. Zavala isn't bad, but a pick around 75 should get you a player better than him.

I don't think anyone is denying that they are really good at evaluating players ahead of the draft. But for me personally, pre-draft evaluations have no value. I'm concerned with the actual pick that's made, and we don't know that ahead of time.

How did you decide to facor Elijah Green then?

Elijah Green is a guess. Every pre-draft mock is a guess. I think his existing skills, his upside and his position make him a player the Rangers would pick. I'm most likely wrong, just like everyone else who doesn't guess the guy the Rangers actually do pick.

But who would you pick if you had never read a single word from guys writing about the draft. Would you even know who the kid was if not for someone evaluating him and then someone passing on information about the evaluation?

it doesn't matter. I shouldn't shit on people paying attention to the draft picks/mocks. not my place.

We are all different in how we follow the team as fans.

Some just want to watch the games and discuss the game with others.

Some want to do those two things above, plus decide a player's long term fate, based on one or two of those games or maybe a part of one. Lol

Some want to just get the results of each game and see who did what.

Some want to read as many takes from fans as they can.

Some want to discuss both this team and what the future direction should be.

Some want to discuss the team and deep dive into trade possibilities with other fans.

Some follow the present team, but are dying for the team to win a World Series, so their focus is on what it will take to do that.

There have been one or two over the years that just like to pick apart others opinions(not to be confused with a difference of opinions). There is a difference between seeing things differently and just being contrary. I am glad we don't have much of that any longer. When there is someone like that just ignore them and be done with them.

We just have to remember that everyone is not in the same group we are. The differences make for a more interesting board.

No problems. I enjoy finding out why people feel the way they do.

hard for me to get too invested because it's such a crapshoot. and in the best case scenario it'll be a couple of years before a draft pick starts making meaningful contributions to the big league club.

i will obviously be watching the draft and I'm looking forward to hearing how people evaluate the pick.

So we’re sitting our best on base guy 2 games in a row. Woody is a idiot.
Go Fish! Who knows why he does these things. They would be better in AAA geting playing time.

Not if he can’t play defense and considered a DH.
The guy that told me that is simply being pessimistic, at best No one who has seen the kid thinks anything like that. If that were the case he would be projected to be picked in the 5th round or later instead of in the top 5 overall.

You just can’t stunt our guys development. Glad Duran was sent down so he at least plays.
Smith should at most get one day off per week but Woody wants to play the platoon game

This is ok if you are going for be in a pennant race and you have 2 vets you are flip flopping
But this hurting Smith gain needed experience on both sides of the plate
