If true Sabres have to pull the trigger on that no? Gionta is a Western NY guy and stockpiling picks in this draft can't hurt right?

What Gillis has done (although a completely different animal with respect to what Tallon did with Chicago three years ago) will net the Canucks in cap hell come the offseason, much like the Blackhawks were then. Granted, he doesn't have to qualify young up and coming studs that have a gear like no other (due to the seemingly dearth of them on his current Canucks team/system) but every team out there knows this. Why trade with him now when his back isn't up against the wall yet?

Don't think the league didn't take notice when Minnesota gave a life preserver to Chicago back then by trading Nick Leddy for Cam Barker (which may have ultimately led to thier Cup that season) - never again will teams bail out another team in cap purgatory. Now especially with the buyouts available, no GM should bail out the Canucks on this one.

The lesson here is, of course, that Cam Barker on your roster = not profit

If this is really true, then yes, I would pull the trigger if I was the Sabres.

Sabres could always bundle some of their acquired draft picks to try and get another pick in the top 10?

Gilman doesn't appear worried, or they wouldn't have extended Higgins.

remember, subtract Luongo and Ballard makes an immediate $9.5m more room.
still tight, but not fucked.

Gilmans interview today was the first time canucks management publically acknowledged the existence of a "window" imo

talked about the team being "fertile" right now

/infertility is really gonna blow!

I just pulled a late April Fools joke on a Habs friend of mine - I send him a text with "Congrats on getting DD from the Kings - What a blockbluster!"
He responds with, "Drew Doughty, no fricken way!"

/I don't think he considers me a friend any longer.

DD44 great guy. Great team guy. Nothing too great or too bad about his game. I have spent a good deal of time talking to him and his girlfriend(wife now?). He loved LA and did whatever the team asked of him. Hope the Kings get to play against him later this year

The #Sharks & #NYRangers have a deal in place (Sharks get 2nd, 3rd round picks) for Ryane Clowe. Now, it up to him to waive his NTC.

@JoshRimerHockey, Sharks will get a additional 2nd if Clowe re-signs with Nyr

Figure Clowe is asking for way too much (and smart GM's realize he's a former shell of his old self) so his next contract isn't going to be nearly as much as he expects...

So he's just a rental for NYR...

Having said that, glad to get a 2nd and a 3rd for him!
