Between Encarnacion, Gio, Mazara, Rodon, McCann and Dyson - the Sox saved $34 million. In signing Eaton and trading for Lynn - they have only spent 1/2 of that. Colome is a $10 million salary.

Plus the Sox are supposed to "spend money" when they get out of the rebuild. So there is a lot of money still to spend to get another Pitcher - a LH power hitter, a 2nd catcher and possibly a closer upgrade. I'd say there is $30-35 million to spend just to get to a payroll of $130 million. Go Sox!

Sox signing Bauer now would be the greatest plot twist in franchise history...and White Sox fans wouldn't know how to react it would be so unexpected....but it won't happen. God it would be glorious though.

That would be about as close to guaranteeing a White Sox World Series appearance as you can get without playing any games. Please get in touch with Jerry.....

"Hey Jerry, Jiddy again. Yep, they all still think you're a cheap asshole. Calling to remind you that you're gonna die soon and you can't take it with you...How much do you really give a sh*t about your kids' inheritance? Bauer. Thanks in advance."

Haha, good one Jidster. I admire your dedication to will Jerry into forking over the coin to land Bauer. I wish I could share that same dedication, but I honestly think when it's all said and done, there will be just two teams fighting it out to secure his services, and that's the Mets and the Angels. Both clubs have owners who appear to be in possession of bottomless wallets, and I believe one of them will sign Bauer when it's all said and done. All things being equal, if Bauer has to sign with a team not called the White Sox, I'd just as soon see him go with the Mets or some other surprise NL team. This way, depending on the interleague schedule of course, it's possible that the only time we'd face him is if we'd both make it to the World Series.

In the meantime, enjoy the YouTube zoom conference the Sox held with various beat writers featuring Q&A's to Rick Hahn, followed by the same to Lance:

i would still like to see quintana added to the team. he'd be relatively cheap, his last 2 seasons have been winning ones (not counting 10 inning's in 2020), and he's only 31. plug him in at #4 and let the kids fight it out for #5 (i'm hoping kopech). he also provides insurance if keuchel goes down for any length of time.

I'm certainly not against this, especially as you said if we can sign him on the cheap. Maybe just being back home in the friendly confines, Quintana might be able to reach back and find the stuff that made him a most dependable pitcher back in his initial stint with the Good Guys. At worst, he could serve as our long reliever/spot starter, which at the moment is a position on which none of our current pen can stake - unless we try Lopez in that role.

If so - Katz will fix him. ;)

I'll say this much, the man did wonders for Giolito. If he can work just half his magic on some of the other pitchers, we're gonna have ourselves one helluva pitching staff!!

The Athletic - is projecting the White Sox to sign Marcel Ozuna as a DH and Liam Hendriks as the closer. Ozuna for a 4 year $80 million deal and Hendriks for 3 years at $40 million.

Naturally I'm gonna root big time for this to happen, but I'm sharing the same skeptical attitude with iddy. I just find it hard to believe. Gotta say tho, that's one helluva stick Ozuna brings. Hendricks does seem realistic.

The money would be there - this would only put the Sox plus $10-15 million over last year's middle of the league payroll.

Unfortunately the way baseball playoffs work it doesn't guarantee anything in the playoffs. It would probably lock in the division, and that matters for sure. But I'll always remember that 2001 Mariners team with 114 wins or something, lost in the first round.

All you can do is try to get to the playoffs with 3 reliable starters and you have as good a shot as anyone in the crapshoot.

I'd love them to spend the dough on Bauer though.
