There are two young candidates for playing time in the OF for the Rangers.

Here are their career minor league slash lines

Player 1 .266/.366/.390/.753 in 2207 AB

Player 2 .298/.374/.461/.835 in 1440 AB

I would rather see what Player 2 can do this year and next year before guys like JPM, Bubba Thompson and Leody Taveras are ready.

I guess 74 was a pretty good consensus pick.

Over 74 and under 74 each got 41% of the vote. Exactly 74 got 10% of the vote.

Does it make sense to think this team will win as many as 7 more games in 2019 than they did this year? They will be missing 114 innings from Cole Hamels and 433 AB from Beltre. They will probably get less production from the catcher spot and the aging DH could very well hit a lot more like he did in the last 2 months of the season than he did in the first 4 months. Mike Minor ramped up his innings just over 100% from what he pitched the year before and often that spells trouble for a pitcher the following year. We will also be missing the contribution that Keone Kela gave us which resulted in 24 saves.

Who knows which versions of DDJ and Odor are going to show up and for how long?

On the positive side guys like Gallo and Guzman could produce significantly better, and Mazara and Profar could produce somewhat better. But is that enough to make up for the negative changes?

It could even be argued that the 2019 version of the Rangers will win less than the 2018 version.

Not really a fair comparison considering DDJ did all of that at a much younger age (18-22)

Heineman started his minor league career at age 23

DDJ is only 4 months older than Heineman btw

The difference in age is offset by what level they were playing at. DeShields got over 1500 AB below AA and Heineman got 1000 fewer AB than Delino did at those lower levels. Heineman has never been at a level lower than what he should have been at so their age difference doesn't matter much to me.

In all likelihood neither will be able to keep a spot here by 2021, but in the meantime I see Heineman as more deserving of a shot to show something in the big leagues from this point forward.

Throw em' all in the ST ring and let the best man win. I'm sure decisions will be made by better qualified staff then me.

We have had a fairly good look at CF candidates and no one really stands out as the one to call a winner thus far. Each has his own strong points and weak ones as well. May be that we will not find who we re looking far with these guys in ST. Lot of time to look and shop else where. This is a good time to evaluate and take time doing so. Nothing to lose.

I am still curious to see if Drew Robinson's marked improvement at AAA will be able to carry over to the big leagues. I think they really should have given him most of the playing time in CF in September. He is one we may have to find out about when he goes to another club.

I think Tocci has more of a future than DDJ or Heinemann. Not as a starter but 4th OF and fillin for injury. But let him work on batting skills in MILB and let the other two audition. Not a big deal this year

That's what i would think but everyone wants to cut bait now when it makes no sense, just because they had their mind made up already

If Mike Heineman was that good he wouldn't have had to wait till he was 25 to get his shot in the first place

So far we have not seen any of the contending CF with all the needed qualities to become a starter. Time is certainly on our side so we should come out of this with the right guy. Question is,where will he be found?
