I don't know who could do much with this team. JD has to give him or whomever something to work with.
I think the position players are going to be ok. How about get some pitchers that are not coming off an injury.

Don't agree with position players. We desperately need a C CF. The ability to score runs with RISP is terrible. Need some good hitters. Team average is pathetic.

From what I've read, the Dodgers have been at the forefront of embracing/applying analytics to their system. Stands to reason Woodward has been a part of and embraces that.

Is it safe to say that the team is going to stink next year, we won’t spend much money, we’re still waiting on Choo, fielder etc. to come off the books?

No hope in sight of when this thing will start to turn around?

but I thought everyone wants to get rid of Choo no matter what it cost or what we get back in return. Choo has 2 years left & $42M on his contract so we eat $11M each year and get rid of him

My statement has jack shit to do with us getting rid of Choo, it has everything to do with someone wanting him

Choo actually led the team in OPS just ahead of Gallo and Profar, the only 3 ahead of league average in OPS+. The remainder of the club were below league average Of course his defense lessens the impact of this stat as well as the contract. Gallo and Profar give a lot more value IMO

So eating money is feasible but now he gets to approve trades which limits trade possibilities. Sure FO would like to move him but you sure don’t disparage best rated hitter.

Just really would liken Willie Rakes to get regular starts if possible but alas we need RHBs.

Side note*****DDJ and Elvis were bottom 2 rated in OPS+ Yes we need a CF and yes it made no sense for Elvis to opt out. Let’s hope he had a bad year due to injury

The Yankees are looking for a Left hitting DH and Choo fits their need plus they want rid of Gray

Yankees know about Choo and JD knows Gray. Don't think this is in the works.

Would like to see Heineman get a shot at CF with DDJ demoted or traded. Also think trading Elvis would make sense now not later

CF really needs to be resolved. DDJ hurts us with both arm and bat.

This team needs a lot of help offensively. Elvis will probably bounce back and be fine. Gallo will probably continue to have a good OPS. The other 7 slots in the lineup are questionable at best. It is too early to give up on a few of them, but overall the offense stinks.

If we are ever going to improve offensively we had better develop some guys in the system and be ready to spend big in free agency on offense.

1. Yes offense must improve hopefully from within but sure taking longer then we thought for Mazara to improve IMO. Our current players MUST improve to have any shot at contention in 2020
2. Profar is better and is a trade chip IMO but it creates a gap
3. We had guys like IKF and Guzman show us they they were MLB caliber players but not above average although Guz has an elite glove and a decent contact hitter. IFK looks like an above average utility guy with good in game instincts
4. We will go no where unless much better SP is developed or brought in. Read where we lead league in homegrown players but sure not helped us except bullpen arms

To get something via trade you have to give something. We don't have much in that regards.

Have to improve from within.

Also need smarter ABs. Think of all the outs Gallo has made due to the shift. Wonder if new manager goes after this.

Season retrospective. If we don't improve from within on players like Odor, Mazara and Gallo. And to a lesser extent Guzman and new pitchers brought up like Hernandez and Mendez.

Then we will have lost earlier potential window to compete as a legitimate force. If that is the case weoukd not be surprised at more midseason trades

This 2019 should be the deciding year for Gallo. He and Choo have the same OPS but who do you want at the plate with the winning run on 2b in last inning of the WS? BA is in Choo's favor as well as OBP. Although OPS .810 is the same the answer is Choo imo. Gallo must improve or go. Mendoza hitters are not going to get us where we want to be.
