Signing him is basically a low cost flyer with the hopes that he could have a late-career resurgence like Lynn, Minor, Gibson, and now, Perez and (as a reliever) Moore.
Not much of a downside, IMO.

agree. i think we get what we can even if it means trading Martin. those trade scenarios i posted earlier make sense if we pulled off first #2 sending Perez, Moore & Culberson to Atlanta for Kyle Muller LHP. bringing in Muller makes Hearn expendable so substituting Hearn in Moore in the 3rd trade we send Calhoun, Hearn & Hauver to Boston got Duran

Dustin Harris has his OPS up to .830. I wonder if he is moving up to Round Rock soon.

i know you are opposed to bringing anyone up until they are absolutely ready but the last 60 games of the season mean nothing so why not bring either Crim or Harris or both along with maybe Winn and Ragans up to get their feet wet at the MLB level?

I think there is a chance Crim does not get rostered. It seems like this might expose him to rule 5

Seems like he is hitting better this month. Have seen at least a couple HRs. I am not married to Lowe by any means and thinking he is more likely a DH.
But is he is or rule 5 eligible then I doubt he gets rostered just yet. Just spitballing

Right! But chances are very slim. Hard to know what Woody and FO think. Maybe something breaks this week/weekend

woody has nothing to do with who is on the 40-man. that is solely the province of the FO. Woody can make suggestions and the new Manager next season will be able to make suggestions, but it all comes down to the FO

agree but we need a lot of others too. at least 2 other good relievers. a couple of good starters and several positional players. i think we will have to sign a closer, a starter, the 2 relievers during free agency. the positional players are in our farm system we just need to figure out which ones starting NOW

You may be right but trade might happen too

Beyond Perez, there isn't anything to sell that would improve the farm. Once a farm is in the top 10 - as the Rangers farm is - improving it becomes much harder.

Not trading him doesn't mean we get to keep him 3 or 4 more years. We could keep him until the end of the year and still lose him in free agency.
