We definitely need to sell and improve the farm. Perez is tricky tho because he probably has 3-4 good years left in him. Do we really want another team to get those years?
we could always trade him in a package and then when he hits free agency this winter resign him

From Jeff Wilson:

The worst-kept secret since the draft is now out in the open: Kumar Rocker has a deal with the Rangers for $5.2 million.

It became official Monday with a tweet from the Rangers' Twitter account.

They did not make Rocker available, nor did they make any club officials available to talk about it. That suggests they don't have answers for all of the lingering questions, such as: How are the medicals? Will Rocker pitch this season? Where do things stand with fourth-rounder Brock Porter?

Rocker, the right-hander selected third overall in the MLB Draft, will be introduced Aug. 4, the first night game after the trade deadline. All draftees who sign with the Rangers will go to Arizona for onboarding and to get dissected at the performance lab in Surprise.

The Rangers announced the signings of six other draftees: RHP Matt Brosky (eighth round), SS Griffin Cheney (ninth round), OF Josh Hatcher (10th round), LHP Kohl Drake (11th round), RHP Jackson Kelley (12th round) and LHP Justin Sanchez (18th round).

Two undrafted free agents have also signed, both college pitchers: LHP Seth Clark (Georgia State) and RHP Jacob Maton (Coastal Carolina).

Is porter likely to be signed?

Seems like only the Yankees and dodgers have been able to pull off such a maneuver.
true but who knows in this case? Perez apparently happy here but he sees the situation maybe he plays along with a trade

There is one thing that keeps that maneuver from happening probably 95-98% of the time. That is because almost all of the time a team trades away a guy like that, that team is not looking to add good free agents in the upcoming offseason. That is not the case with us this coming offseadon though. That removes the biggest obstacle. Of course, nothing is guaranteed whether we trade him or not.

Where might Soto land? Let's rank the contenders

13. Rangers

They’re willing to spend, as evidenced by last winter’s Corey Seager and Marcus Semien contracts, and they’ve got some serious sluggers in the higher levels of their farm system. But part of the impetus to bringing in Soto right now is that you’d get him for three playoff chases. The Rangers aren’t in this one, and if we’re being honest, probably won’t be part of the next one. Don’t be surprised to see them go all out for him when/if he hits the free agent market though.

Doubt he ever hits the FA market. He will get traded and sign a $500 million dollar contract with the team that trades for him.

If he for some reason doesn't get moved which isn't likely. The Rangers could go all out for him in 3 years.......these writers are as bad as our announcers and manager

Texas Rangers

I’ve spent the last couple of months feeling confident that the Rangers should go get a young starting pitcher who is almost big-league ready to pair with Jack Leiter and Cole Winn. Well, they might have just drafted that guy instead, taking Kumar Rocker in the first round of the draft. Whatever they do, it will be with an eye toward contention in 2023. Maybe an outfielder with three to five years of team control, a la Cedric Mullins? — Levi Weaver

It seems all of the local media guys who were Rangers fans first, all were sure the Rangers would trade for a controllable starting pitcher at the deadline this year. That never made sense to me.
