Mettenberger is actually similar to Palmer might be a good fit.

During the preseason Mett was the leading passer of all NFL QB's completing 47 of 68 passes good for 69 percent of passes completed for 659 yards.



In Mett's first full regular season game of action against Houston he went 27 of 41 completing 66% of his passes for 300 yards with two touchdowns,one interception and a 93.4 QB rating. He set a franchise record for a rookie in his debut game for pass yardage.

On the road against Baltimore in his second game he looked sharp in the first half leading the first three or four drives down to the opponents goalline or near it. He completed 16 of 27 passes with one touchdown and one interception.

In his third game against Pittsburgh he set a NFL rookie record on MNF completing 15 of 24 passes for 263 yards including an 80 yard bomb for a TD ending the game with two touchdowns and one interception and a 110 QB rating. Titans lost 27-24 by three due to Titans defense giving up nearly 300 yards rushing.


Against Philly he threw for 345 yards including eight passes over twenty yards with two touchdowns and one interception and an 88 QB rating.


In his fifth game at Houston he completed 13 of 19 passes completing 68 percent of his passes for 184 yards for one touchdown and one interception and a 95 QB rating.



In sixth and last game got hurt against NY Giants completed 14 out of 24 passes for 125 yards

Going into this game in December against Giants Mettenberger had a 87.8 passer rating better than all rookies at that point including Bridgewater,Carr,etc.

To be a sixth round rookie QB Mettenberger played well in 2014. When the team bypassed him for starter in favor of Mariota in 2015 i think Mett gave up. However the team had no line,no run game so those were hard games he did well in as a first year player.

Zach will land on his feet somewhere. He's a good QB and there are plenty of teams that need a good backup.

Bruce Arians remains confident that Palmer can get it done, but the clock is ticking on the 36-year-old field general who has had a history of injury troubles. Drew Stanton has performed admirably when asked to play, but he is much better served as a backup.

Mettenberger has a similar skill set to Palmer, as well as the ability to get the ball deep - a necessity in Arians' offense. He carries himself with the confidence of a starter (another big plus in Arians' books) and would be surrounded by one of the league's most-talented teams.

If there is any part of the Cardinals' front office that doesn't believe Palmer can get it done in the playoffs, Mettenberger may be the best replacement option available for Arians' system.

He was a projected round 2/3 pick that dropped cause he got hurt at the end of his college year. And he really wasn't that bad. Definitely a serviceable type guy.
