i think people are jumping on Steve Yzerman a little quickly here as being overrated. I think you need to let him try to clean up this mess this year and then you can properly gauge him for what hes done or doing. saying hes overrated today is pretty quick on the hatewagon

This will be a blemish on Boucher's coaching resume...

I agree with Matty, pretty early to jump on Yzerman as overrated, didn't he take the Bolts to a whisker of the SCF a couple of seasons ago? I don't think it's his fault Lindback can't stop a beachball this season.

Didn't he win GM of the year a few years back? Am I mis-remembering this? I remember most everyone was drinking the kool-aid. But you're completely right. I could easily form Team Canada.

Nevermind, he was nominated for GM of the year.

Yzerman seems to be living off of the run Roloson went on.

His 2010 offseason moves:

Picking Brett Connolly 6th overall
Trading Mezarros to Philly for 2nd rounder (drafted Brian Hart)
Resigning St. Louis
Signing: Kubina, Bergenheim, Dominic Moore, MA Pouliot, Brett Clark, Randy Jones, and Dan Ellis, restructuring Steve Downie's deal
Trading for Gagne

His 2010/2011 season moves:
Trading for Roloson and Eric Brewer were the ones of note

2011/12 moves:
Trading Dominic Moore away
Trading for Bruno Gervais
Trading Kubina away
Trading Downie for Quincey and Quincey for 1st
Trading for Mike Commodore
Trading Carter Ashton for Keith Aulie
Signed Conacher
Signed Ouellet, Garon, Pyatt, Gilroy
Didn't sign Mike Smith

2012/13 moves:
Trading for Lindback
Trading for Benoit Pouliot's rights
Trading for BJ Crombeen
Signing Salo, Carle, and Sustr recently

In going through that signing Conacher is his crowning achievement.

I believe Boucher led the Lightning to the Conference Finals the year Yzerman won GM of the year right?

Yzerman hasn't been able to solve the D problem. He's spent quite a bit of money on D. The goalie situation is a joke. Smith was so bad in Tampa that Yzerman was forced to acquire Roloson. Smith is now the beneficiary of being coached by Sean Burke. Burke made Bryzgalov a VERY wealthy man in Philly. Some team will probably do the same for Smith this offseason when he becomes an UFA.

if this is the case how can any GM or coach get any credit at all for any success, almost every team they take over has a core or a staff that goes back years of being built to the time of success. I think its an unfair label. Sometimes the better moves are not changing too much and adding pieces. Not alot of people are giving burke a ton of credit for anaheim winning but he made some smart moves in the bottom pieces and that I give a ton of credit for especially the Federov trade but Yzerman is getting roasted right now for 2 seasons of work. Man we are quick to execute people in this league.

I'm a bit shocked Boucher got the axe.

I also wonder why Stamkos has pretty much gotten a free pass a being a one dimensional goal scorer - doesn't seem like he ever bought into Boucher's system.

Aaaaand, there you go. Easier to replace a coach than a star.

As another poster said,if they had decent goaltending these guys would have a solid team. Most teams are lucky enough to have 1 or 2 quality stars-they have 3,in these guys.
Too bad Marty is getting towards the end of his career.

Bernier, Kipper, and Luongo all supposedly on the market. Stevie Y can fix a lot with one deal.

Lindy Ruff says.....Huh!?

Lindy Ruff says "HIRE ME", you mean.

I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a look. Although, I would much rather see him coaching the Rangers. What a train wreck that could be.

i think the true judgement is now for Yzerman. not the conference final year or last year leading up to this. This trade deadline day in a little over a week and the off season will make his real stamp on that team.

I feel like he's waiting for Lavy to be available. That could be a big move for the Bolts.

I'm not saying Yzerman is a terrible GM, not at all...I'm saying he's far from the GM everyone (myself included) thought he was. Like I mentioned earlier, I think he's living off of the Roloson hot streak. If Roloson doesn't have that hot streak, they probably lose in the first round. Obviously the coach will always get the axe before the GM, and it's viewed as a quick fix type situation, because it's just easy. I'm not saying Yzerman deserves to be canned either, but his moves haven't really panned out. Conacher is the exception. But, I wouldn't put him in that GM of the year spot as he once was.
