Now where you will see a tremendous difference is if we trade for two months of Stroman vs. us trading Gibson with a year and a half left. We will have to give up a lot more than Philly gave up for a pitcher with a year longer of control and whose ERA was almost exactly the same at the time of the trade as Stroman's is now.
They basically traded us a starter they had completely given up on and two lower level guys who were not valuable at all. And we had to throw in a young starter that we hadn't give up on at that point, in Crouse.

Either way, my point is the same, but I seriously doubt we would even try to do that before the trade.
Why not? Cubs won’t talk extension and he will opt out of the Player option. We agree to talk a multi year extension if he will opt in

I still don't understand why Mike Trout signed that deal with them. I suppose Ohtani could do the same, but they have to know the franchise isn't going anywhere.
Part money and maybe part Savior of the franchise

I don’t either. I think he’s from New Jersey so I thought he would sign with Yankees/Mets or Phillies but he got a ton a money and probably likes playing in So. Cal.

Stroman didn’t help his trade status tonight against the cards

That makes 4 of his last 5 outings. That's what you call pulling a Mike Minor.
No thanks on Stroman. He’s an injury-prone hothead. And, on any given night (like tonight), he’s no better than Perez or Heaney. Not saying he’s a bad pitcher, but not worth the prospects he would likely cost.

We’ve already given the Cubs prospects for middling starters twice in the past (Dempster, Garza). Let’s not make that mistake again.

Yeah, I agree. A month ago I was interested, but not after this stretch.

I mean he's always been good for 30+ starts minus last year (25) and 2019 (19), not sure I'd call that injury prone

Bowden stated that Ohtani won’t be traded if the Angels play .500 until the end of the month according to an Angel executive he talked to. That could be bs too.

If Moreno really wants to resign him and I think he does then it’s totally possible the Angels will be buyers at the deadline to strengthen their playoff chances for Ohtani.
Their payroll will be astronomical if they resign Ohtani.

His last few starts have reduced what it should cost to get him and he’s still better than either Heaney and Perez. I would rather send him out to the mound every 5th day than either one of them

Stroman may or may not be what we need. Unless we know for sure, we need not make a deal that may strip us of prospects and not give us what we need. Maddux may be the deciding factor here.

Any team that makes a deal for pitching without consulting the HC and pitching coach are idiots

Goes without saying! Of course they will be consulted and because Maddux's knowledge he may be the final say.

and i think Maddux has already identified Stroman's problem and would be happy to see him in our rotation
