did you guys see the Chicago game highlights from the weekend?

if the Coyotes end up staying in Glendale maybe the NHL can schedule them to play 13 home games against the Blackhawks during the month of March when all those cubs and white sox fans take over the area ... probably doable in Garys world

I watched that game on the Chicago feed. SO fucking annoying.
the announcers were more excited about the Cubs play-by-play guy being in the crowd than the game (OK, maybe I can see that  )
They must have cut to this dude a dozen times during the game.

but yeah, it sure looked like a home game when Chicago scored.
first visiting team goal is at 30 seconds

If you want to figure out why Senator John McCain is involving himself in the Phoenix Coyotes mess, just follow the money.

1. Bud Light is a big sponsor of the Coyotes. Go to the Phoenix Coyotes website, and Bud Light is the first thing you will see.

2. Hensley & Co. of Phoenix is the third biggest Anheuser Busch (Budweiser) distributor in the U.S., and presumably sells a lot of beer at the Coyotes games. Even people with free tickets in a papered house still drink lots of beer at a hockey game.

3. The Chairman of the Board of Hensley & Co., and largest shareholder, is Cindy McCain (nee Hensley), wife of Senator John McCain.

You got any proof other than some casual relationship? I guarantee McCain doesn't care about the money at this point. I would much rather bet he like/supports Arizona and its institutions- or if you want to be somewhat cynical about it- gain the favor of Coyotes fans who double as voters.

One thing I have always despised about the internet is the juvenile level at which unproven cynicism gets thrown around, and does not get met with resistance.

This board seems no different: "Bettman riggs the NHL so that more games go to OT", "Bettman is anti-Canadian and simply wants more Americans as owners", "'Old man river McCain' simply cares about his bottom line" etc etc

Life must suck to be so cynical.

1. Casual relationship? Which part is casual? His WIFE? The Chairwoman and largest shareholder of the company that distributes the Coyotes sponsor? What is casual about that?

2. Rich people always care about their money. That's why they're rich.

Actually, my life is great, I have a fantastic wife and two beautiful daughters and a job that I enjoy very much. I also like to discuss on-ice and off-ice issues regarding the game of hockey on this board.

If you don't like reading my posts, there is a handy-dandy ignore feature that you're more than welcome to use.

Very good point and thanks for reminding me...It's great to chat with fans from all over the world regarding this great game of hockey and to get different and varying viewpoints and perspectives. Healthy debates are encouraged on this board while personal attacks are frowned upon.

We're not always going to agree, but we should attempt to keep things civil.

Fair enough. I apologize, I did not mean to imply your life sucks, or that you are a cynical person. You are a good poster on these boards.

I just find the notion that McCain must support the Coyotes because his wife sits on the board of a beer company that "presumably" sells a lot of beers at Coyotoe's games. That is an absolutely ridiculous assertion with zero evidence to back it up.

And KillerVee,

what I find to be a ridiculous assertion with zero evidence is this notion you keep extolling that the Coyotes have "potential" in glendale

Sigh.

There is a huge difference between making an opinionated judgment about the future using reasons. Never did I say I was unequivocally correct and that this is what WILL happen, rather I gave reasons why I think the market CAN turn around and why I think it SHOULD be given the chance.

That is completely different than stating that, with zero evidence, Thing A happened because of Thing B (McCain supports the Yotes because his wife sits on the board of the third largest beer company that "presumably" profits from the Yotes in town- even though according to everybody on this board nobody even goes to Yotes games)

BTW, I think this discussion has started to run its course, but the Coyotes had better attendance than the Blackhawks most seasons this decade. If attendance is the number one predictor of strength of market, there are handful of teams that should be considered for relocation as well;

Atlanta, New Jersey, Islanders, Preds, Panthers... Im sure there are more.

And if we were having this dicussion 4 or 5 years ago, the Penguins and Blackhawks would be on that list as well.

Point being, markets can change- but I think I'm about ready to wrap up this discussion.

In addition, John McCain likes his cushy Washington DC seat. So looking to help the franchise will get him literally tens of votes from the fans. The rest of the city will also vote for him, because they won't see the tax nightmare keeping the team will drive them to because they don't give a rat's ass about the Yotes or their plight.

But five years from now, when the city is bankrupt and they are stuck with the bill, they'll be like "What the fuck is a JoBing? and why did it cost 345 million dollars?"

Part of me wants to see the Coyotes stay in Glendale for another 5 years just to see how much money they will lose. :D

Im tired as a season ticket holder and fan of watching our teams money and others teams successful money go to their team. they need an owner to either take the losses there or move NOW.

I know your joking :)

How do you think I feel as a Leafs fan. Our team pays the most in revenue sharing to prop up these God awful markets
