Vote passed 5-2 (for those of you scoring at home). One council member suggested doubling ticket prices to cover losses (good luck with that strategy).

The one speaker I found funny was that big burly guy who said: "The Coyotes bring in revenue to Glendale"

I'm no math expert, but how exactly does losing at least 25 million per year mean you are bringing in money?

It brings revenue to the surrounding businesses and hotels. Without the team the entire Westgate area would close. There would be 1000+ jobs lost if they left. People bring up minor league hockey, but that didn't even survive downtown so nobody would go to Glendale for that, if that were to be a replacement. They need a capable owner, which they have not had since they have been here.

Having lived in Phx for 19 years now this town only supports winners. We are now winning, but without decent ownership people are still reluctant to show up. We get an owner and it will be successful. I know no one will believe me on that point, but live here for 2 decades and you will see what I mean.

If people want to bag on the team for attendance then maybe the Dbacks should relocate as well. They are averaging less then 15k a game in a building that holds 49k. Teams are just not supported here unless they win.

That's laughable ! So the people that are not going now get to save twice as much?

Thus, since they are saving twice as much, they can then afford the higher prices and start going to games. :D

Technically, he's not wrong.

If I sell a widget for $2, that costs me $10 to make - that still is considered $2 revenue.

I'm still not sure where this new owner is supposed to come from. The guy they have on the line now is holding them over the barrel. what was it... $100 mill in management fees over 5 years?

Pretty soon Obama is going to send the Navy Seals into Arizona to straighten things out. Bettman, Glendale City counsel and god knows what else.

And in Thrashers news (taken from Friedman's blog on cbcsports.ca)

Word is The Raine Group, which is handling the sale of the Atlanta Thrashers for Atlanta Spirit LLC, is telling prospective buyers the team can be moved because having those dates available for other events (ie. concerts) is a better financial option than hockey

In other news (soon, I hope) ... Welcome your Winnipeg Thrashers.
and in 2 or 3 years, Coyotes move where?

Maybe not that far north - Las Vegas.

DOUCHEPOSTER!!! lol

this would piling on

From The Cannon: "It's also worth noting that despite these losses, and an estimated $80 million in losses over the life of the Franchise, they've yet to ask the City of Columbus to underwrite one red cent, even though they could easily point to the losses from the arena, or point up how much they bring into the city's economic picture, preferring to take care of their own business themselves." Dang, Phoenix, you got served.

Charles Wang has been doing the same thing the Blue Jackets have. We will find out on August 1st if his patience will bear fruit.:clap2:

Twitter is all abuzz that Hulsizer is pulling out of the Coyotes deal...and there's this.

According to Jude LaCava of Fox 10 News, Hulsizer is pulling out of the deal to purchase the Coyotes

The NHL needs a new Playbook (wink wink nudge nudge)

What sucks is we have to hear more crap about the Coyotes problems for another year. Just move the damn team & get it over with.
