Mrs. Stokes1931 has a conference in Charlotte July 25-28. I may or may not tag along.

I am thinking of catching some minor league games. So far, the closest teams that are playing at home are the Durham Bulls, the Carolina Mudcats (Raleigh), the Greensboro Grasshoppers, the Hickory Crawdads, and the High Point Rockers (near Greensboro).

Any recommendations?

I would seriously like to take a week or so and explore games in the NW League, only six teams now, and if I go on a Friday I can see three home games for three teams and three home games for the other teams Tu-Th the next week.

Do it all! If I was closer, I'd say let's catch some guys together but NC is about 10 hours from where I am. That is like driving from Redding to San Diego.

Anything halfway that isn't flooded out? You near Memphis?

Chattanooga is not playing at home while I am in that neck of the woods.

The Nashville Sounds are in town.

Hey, thanks about figuring something out! Memphis is closest. I haven't looked to see how their stadium got affected by the flooding. Nashville would be the next closest. Let me check my calendar and get back to you on one of those dates!

Great. Nashville looks to be about 400 miles (routing through Atlanta) or 7 hours. Memphis is a 9.5 mile drive from Charlotte.

I suppose I could always stop in Atlanta for a game. Their stadium is WAAAAAY out of town. The Braves bought a bunch of property and are trying to develop it into a hotel/bar/restaurant scene. Successfully, it appears, from my last visit in 2023. Alas, I stayed at the airport because I had an early morning flight, and it was an hour by public transit to get to the game. When the Braves scored 10 runs in the first several innings, I had had enough. Toured the stadium, some very impressive historical displays, including 755 bats forming the number 755 for Hammering Hank. My phone app calculated a three hour public transit trip back to my hotel. Since it was towards the end of my 50 days on the road, I thought, "Screw it!" and dialed up an Uber. Turns out my driver had gone to school at Pasadena City College so we shared Pasadena stories. My frugal/cheap self was pained by spending the money on Uber. But it was worth it, if only for that conversation.
